old user, new car

I've been here a little while and I figured I oughta throw something up about the new ride: 1987 Chevy S10 pickup. short cab, short bed, 4 speed manual, 4 cyl 2.5l TBI OHV turd of an engine. how chevy only got 90 hp out of this big of an engine I have no idea but it shows in that it can't warm itself in cold weather. no AC, power steering, power brakes (!), or power anything else. it's a workout to drive, especially when I start having fun in the snow (6.5 turns lock to lock) but so far it's doing better than the Cressida for gas. it also fits a lot more cargo and gets similar mpgs (200 mile trip on less than a tank loaded to capacity, it's only a 13g tank lol)

so far it seems the faster it goes the better the economy. the tank that was all 55-70 mph got 25 mpg, my usual 40-60 local hwy usually gets around 22-23 mpg. anything over 30 mph is 4th gear.

so the mods thus far are:
-full grill block AND 1/2 radiator block (only way to keep the darn thing over 150f below freezing)
-soft tonneau
-undersize tires are killing my mpgs because I'm not traveling as far as the odometer thinks (I've done the math hence 21 mpg in town instead of 23-24)
---this might be fixed soon. found someone offerring tires larger than stock for free so that oughta bump it into the 25c/30+h range.

plans are bigger tires (as mentioned), belly pan, and longer down the line 5-speed trans and an engine overhaul including new manifolds and an aftermarket computer of some kind. My 88 cressida makes this thing look like a calculator

and of course, pics:http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...7%20S10%20Meg/
