5 wire o2 sensor blues

Got a "used" 5 wire o2 sensor today for free that a friend of mine took from a running car. I was throwing a code 48 which was Lean Air fuel sensor..

Everything dealing with my o2 sensor is hard wired. Running a cx wiring harness. where i repinned at the ecu to allow for the 5 wire.
I am pretty sure that everything is wired up right or i think i would be displaying more codes than it is. I have the right ecu incase you are wondering.

So anyways, the car is no longer throwing a code 48
It has now moved on to a code 41.

From what i looked up it says that its a bad o2 sensor heater.
I am wondering a couple of things.

first of all, does this mean the new o2 sensor i installed is even worse than the old code 48 one?

second, is there anything i can do to trick the ecu, or hard wire something into the sensor itself.
i searched btw , according to svoboy : "You can run a 1k resistor from POWA to A6 to get rid of that code 41."
Is this also true for a 5 wire? and what effect will it have on gas mileage if the ecu is tricked into thinking the o2 sensor heater is working?

I am trying to be a cheap basterd as long as i can. $300 for an o2 sensor is ridiculous. Making this one work out for FREE would be so much better.

I too am a cheap bastard. But even if you get this one to work, who knows how long it will last. I paid $315 at autozone for mine (and yes, SVOBoy informed me that I paid too much) and my problems went away immediately. I have had good FE ever since, over 14k miles. I think it was money well spent.

Get one on ebay for $170... brand new. Just search for "L1H1"

oxygen sensors have been known to suddenly stop working properly when you switch them out.

It looks like the LAF sensor is the "battery pack" replacement of the VX, so to speak.

ok, got a chance to mess with my wiring.....

now i am back to a code 48.
I think the wiring is the issue here soo...

I need to know, the pinouts for the 5 wire o2. I am wiring directly from the o2 sensor wires (no clip, harness etc...) to the ECU.

I need O2 wire color to ECU pinout location.

I have searched everywhere.
I had the info a long time ago but apparently i lost it somehow.

If anyone can help with this let me know

HERE is a link to a post I participated in on Honda-Tech when I was doing the opposite of what you were doing - I was taking a VX wiring harness and retrofitting it to accept a 4-wire o2 sensor. There's lots of tidbits of info in there like wire colors, ECU pins, etc. Dig through the post and see if it helps.

Im still looking

so far.....

O2 sensor wires:

red - sensor element positive
Black - ground
white- control element
yellow - heater -
Orange - Heater +


Ecu:
d14 - heater
a6- heater


so far it looks like yellow and orange will go to d14 and a6?
can anyone confirm any of those?

well i checked my wiring
here is how i have it wired up......


o2 sensor wire ---- ecu pin out

WHITE to d16 (VREF signal)
YELLOW to d14 (PHO2S O2 sensor White, heated 02 sensor Signal, 0.4-0.5V when ignition is turned on; drops to less than 0.1V within 2 minutes )

RED to a25 (Battery positive from Main relay, Battery Voltage with KOEO)


BLACK to ground (to vehicle ground in engine bay)

ORANGE to A6 ( PO2SHTC O2 sensor (heating element) Org/Wht, Battery Voltage with KOEO )



I am still throwing a code 48, after re wiring it this way....
What do you guys say?

dont' wideband o2 sensors put out 1-5 volts? I also alwasy thought they needed a seperate controller to control their membrane or seomthing like that, if your using the stock CX ecu, i woudln't think it would have these abilities in it.
