50k on my VX

Just passed the 50 k mark on my revived VX. Only replaced parts are air filter, plugs, timing belt, and tires. Flushed brake and clutch fluids.

Everything else is still original.

22,510 miles since it was rebuilt.

Went to Mobil 1 0w-30 synthetic on the last oil change.

regards
Gary

Hi Ride,
You consume 3,5 l/100 km with the red Civic on the pictures?
Amazing, impressive...
You're hypermiling, that's for sure. But I do also and have difficulties going under 6 l/100 km. My daily commute is approx. 22 miles one way.
May I suppose your normal drives are rather long (>50 miles once the engine starts)?
Congratulations with this performance.

3.5 per 100 is the Insight. I retired the VX when I sold it a year ago. I have to start a new gas log on the VX. It had averaged something like 53-55 MPG on the old gas log.

Best tank was 68 and worst was 47 MPG US.

My usual drive is about 40 miles round trip, through over 45 traffic lights. I have lived here most of my life and my route selection makes a huge difference in the mileage. I also am retired, so I can avoid the heavy congestion that really hurts gas mileage.

regards
Gary

Still impressive. Congrats on 50K. I wonder how long that engine will last?

The engine is immaculate inside. When I had the timing belt replaced they did not replace the fan belts. There was no reason to toss them in the trash. All this is related to the conditions when the insurance company kept the vehicle inside for 13 years. Apparently it was under controlled conditions, at least to a certain degree. The roof was not painted when we fixed the car and the original paint shines like new.

The rear drums have no surface rust, and the wheels have no corrosion damage from brake dust. The wheel weights have been changed once, when the tires were replaced.

All of the hydraulics (except fluid) are original, as well as the brake pads and shoes.

If you didn't know the real age, it would seem like the car was about 5 years old, instead of made in August of 1993.

regards
Gary

Amazing. Engine bay and body look like new. I'm envious. My '92 has 181K on it now, and looks a bit worn around the edges.
