I've got two wagons, both 5spd - a 94 Tracer and a 95 Escort. If you up the tire pressure to 40, drive smart, and shut down at long stops... you can get 40mpg.

I'm interested in the underdrive pulley. I put on my 5.0 LX Mustang in early 90s - it was a real performance mod, you could feel the diff, with no downsides. I wasn't paying attention to mpg, but it definitely freed up some HP, and that has GOT to mean more mpg...

I drove an 87 escort EXP for 7 years. I was only getting about 25mpg, But I once came from Birmingham AL, back to Raleigh NC in less than 8 hours.
