he bought the Aveo because his Metro was getting rusty, had a bad axle, and he wanted A/C. And he's sorely disappointed he did.

I drove the aveo to school. I can drive 20mph in 5th without any problems with it. It has such short gearing.

I wrote this today. The gearing IS to short.

Chevy just tossed the eco-tec engine in 'em, so now thy're rated at 37mpg EPA highway.

Jeeezzzzz I got that for mileage today hitting about 50 red lights and up and down bridges and leaving it idle while parked for 20 minutes in my xB!

Hypermiling at a 15mph average doesn't count.
Besides, according to the EPA a 2006 Scion xB pulls a max of 30/34, while the 07 Aveo pulls a max of 27/37, combined seems to be about the same, so in the hands of a capable driver they both would see about the same combined mpg. Aveo tends to be better highway, and xB city.

Yeah but isn't an Aveo a lot smaller than my xB?? and I was speeding today being chased by a tow truck pulling a Honda Civic without a transmission.

They seem pretty similar according to carpoint. The Aveo's a foot longer and the xB's a half a foot taller. Interior dimensions and wheel base are nearly identical, and they are both ~2,400lbs. The difference in efficiency might come from aerodynamics/gearing/transmission efficiency.

edit- it probably comes from taller gearing/better aero for highway in the Aveo, and the xB has the more efficient engine but aero and gearing aren't as good.

Hello -

I drove the Euro-Aveo as a rent-a-car in Europe. There it is called the "Kalos". The stick was cheapy-ratchety, but it was ok overall. I wish I had brought my scangauge with me (then I could post something more interesting than this)!!!!!

Yeah they are close - turning curb to curb 16ft ? I don't think so 36 feet maybe. 11 gallon tank - HP about the same - definately more pointier aero

final drive need to calculate rpm ratio WOW pretty low base price!
looks more like the xA NOT xB

oooooh no traction - stability control and no abs brakes in Aveo 7-8" more head room in xB and more leg room.
