610 miles on 13.28 gallons (Bought a 2000 Jetta TDI)

Hi guys,
i finally got a proper fe car. The WRX wagon was never going to give me the fe I was looking for in my commuting.

I lucked out on an original owner, garage kept, 2000 Jetta TDI, GLS. My first tank gave me 45.93 mpg. That was 610 miles on the tank (using 13.28 gallons) with none of the fe driving techniques that I was to follow, except using cruise. I was in constant stop and go traffic, ac on 80% of the time, highway speeds, more than ideal for fe. I expected 35mpg, the way I was driving, but what a shock I got at nearly 46 mpg. I am confident I can do 50 mpg fairly easily, and over 700 miles on a tank.

Any TDI drivers here?
Jay

Nice buy! A TDi is what I was actually looking for when I got my SVT. Had one located - a clean '03 2-door with 41k miles, stick, debadged, and with some great tint on it for only $12k. I called only to find out someone had bought it the day before I never did find another stick TDi around here...

Thanks for the thumbs up guys. Here are some photos from the seller, looks amazing, very well kept.

To some friends, I may have payed too much, but I would pay more for the saving so much in the long run.

Nice TDI! Congratulations!
With such a car, you are hypermiling without hypermiling!

Not until he gets it in the garage and posts his gaslog, he's not... :-)
