Ah that makes sense, the Air flow meter is not that advanced, its just a heated wire and thermistor.

The 1990 Saab 900 using the C14 Lucas fuel injection system did not have a catalytic converter, the Government mandate came in on 1993, so Saab never put an expensive CAT on the car and didn't think they needed a 02 sensor, funny thing is I believe my ECU has an input for a 02 sensor but it has never had one, shame really as I think there very useful.
