Re: EOC Application Specific

My default traveling mode is EOC. I only start and run the engine when I need more momentum, then it's back off again. In practice this means engine on when going uphill, and off for the downhill. On flat ground it's pulse and eoc.

EOC is more effective at lower speeds, as holycow mentioned. When you e-on-c at highway speed, you're getting 200-300 mpg. At neighborhood speed you're down to 20-30 mpg instead. When the engine is cold, fuel consumption is much higher, up to twice as much, so EOC saves even more gas at that point.

I can see the benieft on say the freeway or some long stretch of road where your not going to have to stop at a light at the bottom.

I'll usually put the car in 4th or 5th and go down a hill taking advantage of Fuel cut

Re: EOC Application Specific

thanks guys, for your input.

just filled after a tank of lots of EOC...still disappointing, but i got over 40mpg for the first time since the end of june. i certainly didn't go as many miles as some of you, but i did so at every opportunity...which will never be a great deal.

i don't have hills, but i do EOC on overpasses. the back roads locally present some, but not many chances to do so. again, driving to work in the dark hours of morning leaves no opportunities. perhaps i'll keep trying to perfect this strategy.

thanks again.

Does it still need TLC? Perhaps there is some needed maintenance that you've missed.

Re: EOC Application Specific

the only thing left is timing and valve adjustment. my suspicions have been confirmed...recently had another LX(same vintage) and a geo metro blow me off the line at traffic signals!
