I have to say that I drove a new 1.1 last week (I added 300 miles and it's still got less than 2k on the clock) and I feel that it would struggle to beat my old Panda.

Is your car facing the odd hill or two ?

How near are you to your next fill up ?

Do you get the chance to cruise at a steady speed or are you up and down the box ?

could be also due to the winter.

Summer fuel and summer driving should increase mpg, not only because of summer blend, but because the engine does not need the extra fuel when stationary, to keep the engine running.
