Fuel Economy Champions List

Sorry, couldn't live with the typo:

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...-champions.htm

For 2008.

You could have edited the typo. And, you could have posted the whole thing here since you almost surely wrote it yourself anyway. (I say that because your username and the article writer's name both contain "Tom", and you made an account here apparently specifically to post the link and nothing else.)

Also, your research is incomplete. The Jeep Patriot SUV is EPA rated 23/28, combined 25. I'm pretty sure it would be a "Compact" SUV, and should have come in second on that list.

Yeah, don't seem very accurate, since the '08 focus blurb in the FE section reads... "In Consumer Guide testing, Focus models with automatic transmission averaged 27.3-28.9 mpg in mostly highway driving. A manual-transmission sedan returned a frugal 31.2 mpg. Focus uses regular-grade gas."

Which should put it in 2nd or 3rd in the compact class...

I remember The RoadWarrior..To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..the world was powered by the black fuel & the desert sprouted great cities..Gone now, swept away..two mighty warrior tribes went to war & touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

Hmm...I didn't read the whole article, just skimmed it. I see that it was about their own testing, not EPA numbers, so what I said about the Patriot could be wrong.

other than free transportation for the editors thereof; I don't find the info to be very useful. At least the EPA has the same test for every car. We all live in different environments so any estimate is going to be skewed. The fact that the average person is not going to get the EPA estimate is no surprise.

Also, I wouldn't consider the V6 version of some vehicles to be "champions", when there is a 4-cyl version available.
