**how Old Are Your Tires?!!** Please Watch!!

Please watch this from abc news. This will help you if you are about to buy tires or maybe make you reconsider over inflating your tires. http://abcnews.go.com:80/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897

That video has been making the rounds on the internet, and the issue has been making the rounds on the internet and the general media. As usual, the media has taken a valid issue and far overblown it for sensationalism. I wouldn't recommend getting your car brought to the tire shop on a flatbed because your tires are 6 years and one day old, but you might want to reconsider keeping tires that have been exposed to UV for ten years...

As for overinflation, check the many quotes from Tirerack, a police publication, and some others in my tire pressure post.

Running around on 8 year old tires is FAR less of an issue than all the ignorant SUV drivers driving at 80mph with a trailer in 100? weather with 15psi in their tires. Overheating from underinflation and overloading causes almost all tread separations.

Cliff notes: http://www.safetyresearch.net/tires.htm

Basically, don't install "new" tires that have sat on the shelf for 6 years or more, because they supposedly become dangerous.

The last set of tires on my Buick lasted about 10 years since I only drive that car about 2,000 miles a year. My current tires on the beast are almost 3 years old, and the tires on the Buick are about 18 months old. Rusty's tires are 5 or 6 years old.

If ABC wanted to do some good they would have mention ed the importance of proper inflation in the story. This piece has the production values and use of language appropriate for a 6 year old. I thought they were being sarcastic at times, like a saturday night live skit or something. I never watch T.V. so maybe I am behind the times.
