MINI First

a buddy of mine just bought a mini and sees better than 40 on the highway. he does not hypermile. he knows I am into very efficient vehicles so he told me of a car that mini is making.

the MINI FIRST

ENGINE POWER 75 HP
1.4 LITER
120 NM@2500 RPMs
manual trans
53.3 MPG
128 G/KM O2 EMISSIONS
0-62 13.2 seconds
top speed 109 MPH
PRICE 10,950 (euros, I think)

I will try to post a link but you can find this stuff by searching MINI FIRST. I don't think they plan to bring it to the states right now but I would love to have one of these. from what I (and my friend) have been told, the body is exactly the same but with steel wheels and cheaper materials to keep the cost down

http://mini.co.uk/html/model_range/m...omepage_banner

if anyone could do the conversions, I would love to know what the torque is and what the price works out to in US dollars (even though I know it would be more than that)

and what do y'all think about a 13 second 0-60? I don't think it is really that bad. it isn't a race car by any means but it isn't that bad is it?

any thoughts

$16,150 USD. For future reference, Google is good for those sorts of conversions. Just type something along the lines of "convert 10,950 euros to USD".

$16,000 and 0-60 in 13 seconds? That won't sell in the US.

A $10,000 Korean bottom-of-the-barrel model would be larger and faster, and the leftover $6,000 buys a lot of gas to make up the missing 20mpg.

I think the mini name would sell some of them alone. I do agree that the price isn't that much better. I think the base mini (the US version) runs about $18k and I am not sure the specs of it though I know it is better than 100hp

one thing that I was really suprised about is the fact that the mini has an unbelievable resale value.

*edit* my mistake, I don't think it is a euro but maybe an english pound. it looks like an L with a line in it. I did a conversion using max's technique and it came out to over $18k. maybe it isn't such a good deal

120 NM is about 88 lbs / ft.
NM = Newton Metres and multiply by about .75 for a quick number.
The actual conversion factor is:
1 newton meter = 0.737 562 147 28 pound foot so
120 newton meter = 88.507 457 674 pound foot.

Great cars too by the way and there is a Supercharged version as well.

Pete.

actually the cooper S is turbocharged now. not sure why they dropped the supercharger for the turbo but hey, whatever works.

that same buddy told me that and I had to look it up for myself but now it makes 172hp vs the 160 it did before. with that car, even a little more oomph makes a big difference

According to this news report 500 mini electric vehicles will be shipped to California to be driven by select customers:

Not sure about the 0 to 60 speed, though.
