New Ford Focus

Just did my 1st fill up on my new Focus. Avg MPG is 27, avg cost per mile is $0.128.

27 MPG? That sounds dreadfully low for a new car, are you sure you added the fuel up properly?

My 2014 Focus got in the upper 20s (MPG) when it was new (last winter) but now it gets `36 MPG (this summer, read A/C use) ((same fuel, tire pressure, driving style))

I think the issue is the fact US cars still weigh considerably more than their European counterparts. His 27 MPG is actually 34.4 in UK MPG. His car also weighs an additional 35% more than your Clio. That being said, I hope vehicles in the USA will get the more diesels like you all have in the Europe, it just makes sense.

We have CAFE laws in the USA that mandate the OEM vehicle companies to have fleet numbers much higher by 2025. So look for lighter and more fuel efficient vehicles to flood the market in the USA in the next 10 years.

@rfruth - 36, that's great. That would be 43.2 in UK MPG.

I was going to say, the diesel is rated at 76 MPG and even the gas is rated at 60 MPG, although people probably get considerably less in real life!

I consider my mileage to be quite good considering it's brand new, used only for stop and go traffic and our gas is 10% alcohol. My former 2011 Fiesta averaged 27 to 30 mpg and again 5 miles per day in stop and go traffic.

It's also a 2L engine. Overseas gets a wider range of engine displacements, like a 1L Ecoboost. The only engine option we have is the 2L Ecoboost.

Still 27 sounds very low for a 2.0 litre gas, some of the Mazda 2.0 litre gas engines got 65 MPG in the fuel tests, but I guess it's still breaking in so time will tell.

27mpg is actually the EPA city rating. The OP might be doing well if that is the majority of his drives.

Yes, that is the vast majority of my drives. My wife uses the car to drive back and forth to school. She could almost walk it. A 5 mile ride with stop signs all over.
