Question Is top ten possible ????

As others post fill ups I will shortly fall back but this morning the top ten looks possible in both % above EPA and the mileage list. I was 12th on both this morning . I took my mirrors off yesterday and taped on some plastic skirts. Inside mirrors don't give quite the same view. I will need to relearn my mirror usage.

Current tank at 59 mpg @ 175 miles and scangauge calibration now seems pretty close for the IAT I am running. I am tempted to run a fixed resistor just so the calibration stays more constant .

Would someone remind me what the best place is to post photos so links can be put here. I know MetroMPG has posted it several times but I could not find it in about 10 minutes of looking .

Thanks, usedgeo

Saturn skirts. Short enough to be interesting?

Here is a picture of my first effort at taped on plastic fender skirts. The rear ones naturally bowed out more than I expected. I could have done without the cutout. The carboard template made it seem necessary.

I like these so well I might just screw the second revision to the plastic fenders if I make a second set. I know it looks awful close to the front wheel but I think only a little more trimming will be requred.

Nice! Looks like I have an idea of what to shoot for now.

Temps were 52F this morning and got as high as 68F. I was a little disapointed that I didn't crack 60 today. Today was the day for grocery shopping/city type driving.
1) 52.3-5.8 miles
2) 55.6-9.6
3) 54.3-9.8
4) 53.8-7.7
5) 59.4-12.1
6) 45.0-0.7
7) 76.4-5.3
8) 63.3-5.2
9) 74.1-5.2
10) 68.6-5.2
11) 68.5-5.2
Average for today: 59.7

I think I may be closing in on the best speed range for my P&G routine.

This last tank was 71.4mpg (521miles, 7.3gal).

Got the SuperMID installed. After the 1st day's commute to work and back, it read (converted from metric) 73.6mpg overall, 41.3mpg on the ICE, ICE-on 56% of the distance, total distance 102miles (speedometer reads 104miles).

DiamondLarry,
What was the ideal speed range for P&G in the saturn?

Of course I am not DiamondLarry but I was thinking about best speeds today. When I get into 35 mph zones and traffic I cannot accelerate fast enough for efficiency and I cannot get good glides in. I know I mixed traffic with speed but they seem to come together. When I get into 55 mph zones traffic is trying to run 60 sometimes. This hurts my mileage also. What I find to be ideal with respect to speed and traffic is the 40 mph zones. I pulse between 40 and 50. If no one is behind me I will let the speed fall 5 under the limit. In the 40 mph zones I can put together 70 mpg loops fairly easy with a warmed up car.

It was just last Sunday that I got the mirrors off and the rear skirts plus the front ring skirts. The mirrors and rear skirts I would expect some improvement from. The front rings I won't say. If I make them easily removable I might do some proper testing. I like them well enough I am thinking about drilling holes in the plastic fenders and just screwing the skirts on. Not sure what it would do to the value of the car but no one will pay me what I think my cars are worth anyway so what the heck.

After all the BS I will say that by both the fuel gauge and scangauge at 300 miles I am easily ahead of last tanks mileage. I have had a little less wind this tank but maybe those skirts are doing something.

Oops! I completely missed this post. This is something I have been trying to work out for quite some time now. I've pretty well decided that when I'm out in the country and there is no traffic, I pulse from 25-30 up to 35-40 and use 4th gear. There is definitely going to be some more testing on this in the future.

Temps started out at ~46F and have crept up to 79F. Now, if I could just get rid of the winds. They are coming straight out of the south at 10-15 with gusts 25-30. Unfortunately most of my routes are either due north or south.
1) 51.6-5.8 miles(wife's work-northbound)
2) 52.9-9.6(my work-southbound)
3) 64.0-12.5(wife's work-northbound)
4) 56.1-6.3(home-southbound)
5) 56.1-13.9(lawnmower parts-southbound)
6) 74.0-13.9(home-northbound)
Average for today: 59.6
