On fueleconomy.gov the last S series Saturn was in 2002. Mine is an SL or SL1 (I am not sure) It is a 2001 with a SOHC 1.9 liter engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. It is real close to 2200 RPM at 60 mph. Mine has PS, AC, CD, but manual windows and locks. I find the Saturn much quieter and more comfortable than the metro.

I posted a few links to picutures near the end of this thread.
http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=4307

The only non-standard thing is the front wheel rings which I have not verified and don't know if they help. I have the outside mirrors off too. The grill is crudely stuffed but I can pull pieces incrementally if I need to. I usually run a 2 x 12 inch opening but am running a bit smaller opening right now.

Your metro is doing pretty darn good also. Until a couple months ago I thought I might catch you but you have really bumped up your average. CO gives too much good advice .

Which motor/trans set-up does your's have? What are your rpms at 60 mph? I would love to see some pics of you aero mods too. Could you add some pics to your garage, pretty please?

sorry for all the questions .

New tank (7/15/2007) - 50.14MPGus, 60.1MPG - imp over 375 miles

So, my best ever tank, and also the first to break 50MPG (us) and 60MPG (imp) Also, this tank was a bit pessimistic (the previous one a bit optimistic) due to different pumps being used.

Good going Landspeed, would you say the biggest change was the mpg feedback from the supermid you installed in june?

It's an SL1, SL's had no AC and only the drivers side mirror. I've got an SL1 also, and yes, the last year is 2002, hence the name of mine Also interesting that the 5-speed is at 2200 at 60 as my automatic is the same!

They're pretty cheap too!

Yes, most definitely! Prior to SuperMID, my best tank, once, was 53.2MPG (UK), and they were usually 47-51MPG (UK), but now I'm getting 60MPG (UK), so around a 20% improvement!. And it keeps rising as I try new techniques.

I did pretty good today. Temp started out at ~65F this morning and ended up at 78F for the day and winds were very light. For some strange reason, my Prius decided to be a pain and kept firing up the ICE for NO APPARENT REASON! Coolant temp at 185-190 and SoC at 5 bars and ICE would NOT shut off to glide. What was really madening was the fact that it usually did it when I needed to pulse to 40 mph for hills/traffic and I couldn't use the EV switch to kill it. I guess I'll have to try and never go over 34 mph again just to be safe.
1) 69.3-5.8
2) 84.0-9.6
3) 79.7-9.8
4) 100-6.3
Average for today was 82.0 and the tank is at 81.2 after 344.1 miles.

I finally have something I feel is worthy of this thread: An encouraging new "personal best."

I logged it as 35.29MPG over 318 miles (9.01Gus), because that much I can prove. That's 60% over EPA, and more than I'd thought possible... all thanks to you guys!

But, due to "pilot error" I seriously overshot my normal fill point. The first click-off happened around 8.6Gus, which would be nearly 37MPG or 68% above EPA. I normally fill to the first click, then take it up to the next quarter dollar. So while I'm being conservative with my gaslog, I'm sure I managed well over 36MPG this tank.

And that's in a 2.0L automatic transmission convertible... with the top down!

I now have no doubt I can make my close-in goal of 50% over EPA on my 90 day and lifetime averages. My longer-term goal is 100% over, and who knows... with y'all's help I just might pull it off.

Stoked,
Rick
