If that mixture screw is for idle what is used for when the pedal is pushed at all? Maybe I need to do some more reading on carbs and how they work... I figured that one screw was for over-all mixture.

I have a 1 barrel carb with only one adjusting screw, and then the idle speed screw. Would I be able to lean it out with that setup? I could lose quite a bit of power and still be ok. What kind of problems would come up by leaning out? Hot engine and pinging?

When the pedal is pushed -the accelerator pump is actuated .Which squirts raw fuel into the venturis . Yes they can be tuned up a bit too .

Just did a trip into town - it was 26.04 miles, and 64.8mpg (US mpg!)

195% over EPA!!!!!!!!!!!!! This driving technique is, unfortunately, not good for any conditions except light traffic

SG reported 44 mpg for the day. The wife and I car carpooling again. AND IT SUCKS!!! Left my office to go to hers. Took the City route. 38 mpg rolling into her parking lot. Then on to the local post office. 41 mpg rolling into that parking lot. Then from the post office right into the belly of the beast. That would be 71st out to hwy 75. The 71st street segment killed the day.

Gassed up for 81.8mpg (712.1 miles, 8.71gal). This tank was mostly interstate at 60-65mph, but with 2 trips through downtown Anderson ,SC to add variety. The most notable events while driving through this tank was the guy who almost ran off the road while trying to get far away enough from me in the passing lane to get my car completely framed in his cell phone camera. The cop in Due West who pulled me over, not, as he explained it, because I had done anything wrong (he didn't even ask for my licence/registration), but because he was curious about the car and wanted to ask questions about it (I asked him and he said there was nothing illegal about my car). And finally the mechanic at the Honda specialty garage (where I stopped to get some parts) who said he thought "the martians had landed" when my car glided silently ICE-off and apparently wheel-less (full skirts on all 4 wheels) into their parking lot. Then of course all of the mechanics and the garage owners had to come out to ask questions and take pictures.

I will probably be down a few MPG for the next few tanks. I finally broke down and got new tires (Sumitomo HTR T4 165/70R13) to replace the worn out Michelin Harmony 175/70R13 on my car. It is getting hard to find tires in my car's OEM size, but these Sumitomo's are suppose to be LRR tires and have a max pressure rating of 51psi (I promptly filled them to 60psi). They initially started out draggier than my old tires, taking a pulse width of 4.5, rather than 3.7 on the SuperMID to maintain the 30 to 65mph speed range on level roads, but they have gotten better in the 70 miles I have driven them so far. My car gets the same mileage when driving at speeds from 30 to 65mph (and only slightly less at 70mph). It takes additional gas to increase the speed, but once at constant speed, the mpg's go back up to where they were at the lower speed, and I get the fuel used in acceleration back in coasting distance when dropping back down to the lower speed.
