No ABS on 92-93 VX's. How u guys feel about it and what do you do about it. I'm trying to google some videos how to brake without abs. I know u pump brakes instead of holding them. What u guys think?

People drove cars for 100 years without ABS... I think you will get the hang of it.

I personally do not like braking slick surfaces with ABS. I like to modulate the brakes myself. But that's just me...

i drive for a living...increase the 2 second rule to 3 or 4, adding a second for each adverse road condition...night, rain, etc

constantly scan side to side and ahead at least 15 sec.

people WILL cut you off but you WILL be prepared for emergency stops!

I own a few vehicles w/o ABS. I would drive one no problem, but I have strong reservations letting someone borrow them that has never driven a car w/o ABS.

I don't own a vehicle with ABS- you'll just have to think a little more and not hit the brake as hard when the road is wet or icy.

Many people panic when they lock up the brakes on a snowy road- you have to pump the brake when that happens.

Ok thanks guys. I usually pump them anyway but in emergency stopping situation you instinctively hit and hold brakes

Still trying to get a feel for when to pump.

I'll be going on a trip in a few weeks and will have to navigate step downgrades post mountains, how to use brakes with gear selection, etc to prevent from coasting out of control?

If I get a lockup or skid I instinctively cycle them. Saved my butt on many occasions, especially on the motorcycle.

My 2006 HHR doesn't have ABS.
How often has ABS actually engaged in your past cars?
If practicing good hypermiling techniques, you will already keeping more buffer space, downshifting while stopping, and paying more attention to the road.

Try 'threshold braking' for searches.

Not the best on how, but a start.

Threshold is hard braking approaching wheel lock up. I try to practice it on dry roads, because I figure it results in less brake wear than the long brake method everyone seems to use.
Cadence is the technical term for pumping brakes in times of poor traction.
