not really a rant....

I recently changed my EPA values to the "NEW" numbers. I don't really agree with them, I think the old numbers are easily attainable with REASONABLE" driving. But not many around here drive reasonable. The way I used to drive wasn't reasonable, and I got 25 mpg, sometimes worse. I just think the new numbers do not encourage reasonable driving habits. if the hypermiler status was changed to 30% because of the new numbers, I would still be above that. So I will continue to proudly display the GasSavers.org sticker on the back of my car.

(city/highway/combined)
old numbers: 25/31/27
new numbers 22/28/24

I changed to the "new" numbers too. It got me into "hypermiler" status but it felt cheap. I'll shoot for 30% over instead of 20%. My real goal is still 30 mpg.

Myself included Bill ! I did the switch to the new and *poof* Hypermiler ! It did feel cheap . I switched back until I hit my 20% with the old numbers as I felt it was a very achievable short term goal . Now my goal is to hit 50 mpg and hold it . maybe ....maybe not ...it's my goal and I'm sticking to it .

You think the EPA values (old ones) are bad? Hahaha!!! Seriously funny stuff. Take a look at the Japanese market 10/15 mode. Talk about insanity. I BARELY beat their FE prediction in my car, and that was only when I started EOCing. My car has a predicted value of 53 mpg. I will have to check my values, but I believe that they rate the Prius (newest model) at around 70-80 mpg.

I agree that the old EPA values were fine. Before I even knew what hypermiling was, I was consistently beating the EPA values in my old Nissan 200sx. The new values WILL make people think that they are getting better FE than they are.

"Hey bob, what kinda mileage are you getting outta that new H3??"

"Man, I am beating that EPA sticker!"

Alright, so maybe this is a bit of an exaggeration...

I always met or exceeded the old EPA estimates in my car even before hypermiling. I don't know how poorly these idiots are driving that they needed to ***** about the old rating system.

Well, now I'm a hypermiler...

Feels like I cheated, but in all reality, I think the new figures are a little more accurate. I was driving conservatively (but no EOC) in the metro and only got 35, which is now the new highway numbers.
