First tank with the HF tranny yielded 44.97 MPG! That's a 10 MPG improvement over my running average! I got 441 miles out of the tank...I really want to make this next tank a 500 mile tank.

Here's your next 10 mpg?

"about a month ago i noticed that i had a few litres of mineral spirit kicking around. So i added 500mls to my 11gal tank in my 2000 civic.

500 ml = 16.9 oz per 11 gallons

when i add 500mls or more, that tank of gas gets me better gas milege <8-12mpg>...., and when i dont use it i see a drop ?

I do the same routes every week, and i am always a very conservative driver.

i have also noted that the civic starts up faster in the morning. and the engine feels more responsive.

I maintain my cars, tune ups , oil changes, the usual BITOG kinda stuff."

Hey ZugyNA, how come you don't keep a Gaslog for your vehicle(s)?

DaX: that's awesome. Another drivetrain upgrade worth the effort. Could you have driven past 500, based on fuel remaining in the tank? (Is it a 12 gal tank?)

Did you do any/much CODfishing on this tank?

I hear that minerial spirits are NOT good for the car . . . maybe the MAN is hiding more truths from us!

I did NO codfishing...I want to re-establish a baseline with the new transmission before I start adding other variables. I think I have a 12 gallon tank, so yes, I theoretically could have pushed past 500, but since it was my first tank, I didn't. I think I may take it past 500 this tank.

Fair enough - commendable actually.

The big upside is that, depending on your driving patterns, you can send those mpg figures even higher with coasting and/or CODfishing. 50 MPG will be a distant memory in not too long.

EDIT: do you have to update your car's EPA rating to manual tranny figures?

I was wondering about that. I could probably update it to the 5-speed's EPA rating, but there isn't anything comparable to the powertrain combo I have.

I guess I'm now in the same boat, using a transmission that was never originally bolted to this motor.

If I had to make the call, I'd say use the rating for the engine you've got with its "normal" manual box (even if it's not the transmission that engine came with).

Or are you also using an engine that didn't come in that body style?

Nah, the engine is OE, so I'll just look for numbers for a 5-spd.
