The dont give a hoot tanks

Just turned in 2ea tanks. These dont give a hoot tanks. Have had too do a wedding on one and a funeral on the other. Couple those events and the fact my warrenty work isnt done yet. Ive taken a brake. Still imptessed with its ablity to get good hwy FE running 65-75 mph and alot of A/C time.

I shall start to give a hoot again in the am. Friday I take my car in for its warrenty work. If I dont over sleep in the morning I will hypermile it to the dealer.

Ive started putting 91 oct. in it to see how it reacts to it. It is a high compression engine with a 10:25:1 ratio if I remember right. It will be intresting to see what it does with the higher oct. fuel.

I am taking my highway route because I dont want to EOC as much due to the relay problem. How much are they new? I need one ASAP. Are they easy to replace?

Krousdb: I am not sure where the relay is on aa 1992, but on a 1989 Civic it is located on the inner left wheel well, attached to the door post. It is above the hood latch. Their is one relay, which is about 1"x1", which is the starter relay. Above that, is where the main relay is located. It is about 1.5" x 2" x 1". From the inside of the car you, after you have removed the starter relay bracket, you can just barely see the bolt holding the relay to the body of the car. One bolt, 10mm, and then you have to wiggle it out, it's a tight fit.

The main relay has two relays inside of it. The first half energizes off of the ignition switch, which closes a contact providing a signal to the ecu. The ecu provides a control signal to the second relay, enabling it. The second relay provides power to the fuel pump and to the fuel injector's.

The problem your describing is similar, in many respects to what I was wrestling with when I was working on setting up my car to Codfish. It appeared to me that the ecu will shut down the fuel pump and the injectors any time it thinks their is a issue it doesn't expect to see. From my experienece, about 20% of the time I would have to turn my ignition completly off for a few seconds, then turn it back on. I think the ignition off is equivalent to resetting all of the initial conditions for the ecu to be happy to turn the fuel on.

I don't know the cost of a new relay, but I think it would be worthwhile to get a used one to replace the one in the car with, as a high possibility, particularly since it souonds like several people are having similar difficulties.

They're like 80 bucks or some crap new, get one off ebay for 20-30 bucks and you're set.

BTW, 51 something mpg over 523 miles yesterday. W00t for long tanks.

SVOboy: On your mileage, is the primary change you made, going to the HX manual transmission, or were their other ancilary changes as well?

HF,

Anyway, that's the only thing I changed. My mileage would've been a bit better but I left the car idling and did a bit of rough driving when I was trying to figure out my charging system issue.

But yeah, I haven't changed anything else really, I neeeeeed to put my undertray on but I have no drill, I'll tell my dad to bring me one today.

It sounds to me like I need to get an HF transmission. Do you have any suggestions of finding one, inexpensively?

I got my free off a dude on honda-tech. I forget how budomove got his, but he spent like 50 bucks. I figure honda-tech/local forum/ebay is the way to go.

Just a quick update. I haven't been driving the XFi that much recently. Purchased a few other Metros and fixing them up for resale. 92 4Dr 3cyl auto/94 2dr 3cyl auto/95 3cyl 5spd.

Begining to miss driving it. The autos really suck down the gas at highway speeds and/or with the air on. Keeping track of the 92, looks like it will be somewhere in the low to mid 30's (but the a/c is nice).

Almost ready to turn the 92...just waiting for the title to come back.

I will get back into the game when it sells.

How much do you make on these repairs/what kinda stuff are you doing? I've always thought about picking up crxs/old hatchs with blown engines for a few hundred and just turning it around real quick into 800 or something such.
