It's been fun to watch as I'm dialing in my car. It keeps getting better as I make the mods and clean out the systems (fuel/oil) and get used to it. The numbers are reported by the SG and I don't know if it's dialed in just right yet but the numbers are going up on each leg. Avg speed of the commute is 33-38 MPH. This tank will be the last with acetone. The car sat for 6 months so I'm sure it will get better with each mile.

I just finished a WAI to try and get the IAT up to 100-110 right now the highest I seen is 10 degrees over actual. Current tank Avg is 38.0 MPG

I ended up having to go somewhere at lunch so my "daily" average was for the whole day. It was -5F this morning when I started out. I had an average of 44.9 by the time I got to work. By the time I got home I was setting at 43.8. The high segment for the day was 48.9 this morning and the low was 40.3 and it was this morning as well.

Man, the short trips in cold weather are the worst. Went about 8 km round trip, with 3 errand stops along the way. The engine didn't even warm up. 57.x mpg (US).

And that was with EBH beforehand.

This is not a personal best, but instead an attempt to quantify what has changed from my previous run :

MPG : 51.5 (9.51% decrease from previous all-time best )
Route : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway

IAT Reading : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of 125+ degrees F.

Net Elevation Change : ~210 feet drop

Weather : 64.5 degrees F, cloudy, 50% Humidity, 45 degrees F Dew Point
Time : ~12:00 PM to ~12:30 PM, ~30 minutes

Recent Car Changes :
I restored the DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) because I wanted to see if there was an issue with my electrical system. I have noticed that the coolant is running at 195 degrees F when I am used to seeing 190 degrees F. I know it is not a big difference, but I am very paranoid of overheating (need to get that manual fan switch installed!!!). What does the DRL have to do with the coolant temp? Car Voodoo!!!! I was looking for a correlation.

Hypothesis :
The main comparison to the last run is the big weather difference, 20 degrees F cooler. The traffic was a bit more pushy, leading to a 49 MPH Avg (+3 MPH over my best run). Had to hit the brakes at the 710 South -> 105 West interchange (lost maybe 1 MPG there).

Caveats :
I failed to mention that in my previous best below, I had restored the plastic internal fenderwell cover for the front driver's wheel. It had been off of my car for over a month while I messed with installing the hydrogen thingy. That most likely provided an aerodynamic boost for the run (this may also be why the coolant is +4 degrees F. The engine is getting less air flowing over it from the now missing "hole" in the fenderwell). I also had an extra 30 lbs of kitty litter that I was taking to my parents house (for the cat, not my parents!).

Noticed my average mileage was going down so at 25 degrees outside temp this monring I checked tire pressure and found 32 front 34 rear down from 40 38 psi . . . guess the colders temps and lower pressure really do lower mileage . . . Man the air tank hose was really stiff at that temp to put air back into the tires but at least I put in cold air so it should not drop after it cools.

40.6 MPG this fill. Still don't have the SG dailed in yet. Next tank will have front and rear undertrays and tomorrow I go for a wheel alignment, she pulling right. Hope to see 42ish next fill

Question: why no 5-speeds in your recent automotive past? Luck of the draw, or conscious decision?

Just luck of the draw. I've been desperately looking but they are hard to come by when your a bottom feeder. It was an option on this car and I couldn't believe it when I got in it and saw it had an automatic I figure it worth about 20% on the mileage. I just keep looking and maybe find one to swap the Daewoo-woo for Who knows maybe I find a Metro to test your EPA theory

This week I did a mini experiment: what if I drive more normally? I wanted to see if the mods I added to the car have helped much or not. I still used some of the easier tricks, like EOC on downhills, short shifting when accellerating, quick engine startup and shutdown, and?

But when I was on the freeway I just drove normal. I passes slowing traffic if I felt like it, maintained higher speeds (60 to 70 mph) and didn't lean out the fuel settings as much.

I didn't think it would make a big difference in FE, but it looks like it did! My 90 day average was 38.5 mpg, and on this tank I got 35.7.

OK enough of that, I'm going back to FE driving this week.
As an added bonus I just received a new datalogging program that has functions for MPG, averageMPG, consumption in GPH, as well as other gages. Looks like I'll have to set up a test course and see what works for my car.
