Not too worried about it...gas is $3.15/gallon for premium (every other tank for me)...but for a 10 gallon fillup, I just don't buy a bag of chips and all is good.

If the gas price is high, (4-5$ lets say), it will have repercussion even on people that walk and don't go near a combustible engine...

You bet it will. I didn't say that in order to stiff people.

And I said that because sometimes people that do not have cars thing that they do not have to care about that (or that it will not affect them in their own life) and they should take a look at the problematic.

A lot of people don't know that the crude oil price did praticly hit 100$, still it is a big increase compared to the historical price of the last year (78$ in 2006 and now 98$ in 2007). Even those who drives cars, and also a LOTS of african don't know that, THIS SHOULD be teach at school, MAYBE that is why African people are so poor, they do not learn that at school.

(last part about african is purely sarcastic, just to make it clear)

What I have heard and read is that, adjusted for inflation, the price of oil at it's worst point in the late 1970's early 1980's was probably $100/barrel in todays dollars. That "today" was a few years ago when oil was at $60+/barrel. Right at this moment, with the collapsing value of the dollar, I think we need to hit at least $120/barrel to match the "worst point".

Well, it will it 120$, and then more, there is no choice, because the supply wont (and probably already dont) meet the demand, so the supply and demand LAW will act like it always does in this nice and modern world of new technologies with cities on water and hotel on wings, AMEN.

Adjusted buying power (CPI inflation) in 2007 dollars - $39.50 peak in 1979 = $113.43 http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl. I think CPI inflation takes into consideration the strength of the country's currency among other things.

Just FYI to make "today" actually "today" to the current month
