sentra with japanese se-r

My girlfriend has a 93 sentra with the Japanese model sr20de from an infinity g20. I was wondering if anyone thinks it would hypermile well. I told her I think it would with EOC, because its probably more efficient than the stock engine and not much heavier.

I wanted that engine for my old '96 200sx for the longest time. My sister actually had one in her g20, and she got lousy gas mileage with it. She was only 16 though, and it was an automatic. Perhaps with a good driver and a manual transmission you might be able to hypermile it. Otherwise it is an engine that I personally can't recommend.

auto or stick

Our 5 speed. 91 Se-r went 34-36 mpg rural driving highway. It went 31mpg mixed. The SE-r has a close ratio trans and a short final drive I believe 4.40 to 1. 60mph is around 3100rpms if I remember correct. So despite the low gearing it still got decent mileage and was fun to drive. 40 mpg is possible for sure.

A GA16 is a more frugal engine though.

Its the 5 speed manual, probably usdm se-r transmission with jdm engine, if it makes any difference. The G20 was probably a lot heavier and cushier than a sentra, and I think the stick and driving hypermiling would make a huge difference.

Good points. The stick shift is key here. Plus, keep in mind that my sister was only 16 when she drove it. Oh, and when we first bought it it wouldn't even start. Had to drop oil onto the spark plugs, suck it up, and then we could remove the spark plugs. Idiot left the hood AND the spark plug wires off and the engine got rained on. That could have had something to do with her low mileage. When I say low though, I mean high 20s to low 30s...

Anyway, enjoy.

low 30s isn't that low for a 2.0L. My dad's civic Si is lucky to get 30 and he drives fairly easy(as in slow), although I can't convince him to drop the money on a SG.
