Exclamation Official Results Correction: First Competition Cycle

Announcement: An error has been found that affects the final results of the FE Team Challenge, Version 1.0.

From RH77, FETC Commissioner

Some of you probably know -- the results of first cycle of the competition is incorrect, due to a spreadsheet error on my part. I take full responsibility for the error.

The first place team was not changed, but it did affect 2nd and 3rd place:

_____________
2nd Place: OPEC Busters with 15.2% Overall

zpiloto: 8.3%
lug_nut: 35.7%
repete86: -14.9%
beeuu: 18.5%
brock: 28.2%
______________
3rd Place: Slow Burn, with 13.5% Overall

metrompg: -0.1%
diamondlarry: 15.0%
drw: 37.3%
basjoos: -1.8%
elf: 17.3%
______________

FAQ's:

How did this happen?

I accepted the role of assisting the 3 teams as "The Commish", mid-cycle. With that came the role of running the final calculations based on an existing spreadsheet. At the end, an error in calculating the average FE occurred, probably due the estimates and ScanGauge-only data in the same sheet. This was a manual process I performed by inputting cell calculations from reported data. In an attempt to quickly release the tally, I accidentally switched the results of two members' tanks on the same team: Lug_Nut and Repete86 for one tank, which skewed the total. After releasing the results and posting the spreadsheet, Lug_Nut observed the error and reported it within the forum.

Have these results been checked?

The sheet has been checked, double-checked, and re-checked independently to verify that these results are indeed accurate.

What has been done to prevent it from happening again?

An automated process is being developed to automatically take the Gaslog data in the date range, perform the calculations/penalties, and get the results automatically -- reducing human error. This will also be checked twice for accuracy. Updated 90-day averages are manually input, and are made public in the weekly updates.

So, how will this effect the results from week to week?

I still manually keep a spreadsheet of Weekly calcs, which will be posted from week-to-week with the updates. Team-Captain updates should be used to batch the data and send it to me (instead of having 20+ sets of data in different formats, there would be 4 at this point) -- this helps! Anyone can access the sheet for verification. Since weekly reports are only a partial picture of overall status and is often estimated by members, it is not to be used for the official cycle results.

"SG" indicates estimated data or ScanGauge/SmID-reported FE, with all others being actual results from filling.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

The Commish

Reminder + Weekly News

First, thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement. I'll admit it's tough finding time with the "real" job (+travel), other volunteer projects, and home life -- but I still enjoy it all I think the Challenge is really accomplishing something beyond just FE improvement

It's Sunday -- time for that friendly reminder...

By tomorrow at Noon Eastern time (GMT -5:00), please report your SG/SmID/Estimates, or actual tank fills to your Team Captains.

Team Captains: at that time (or earlier if everyone has checked-in) please send/post the info.

By Monday evening, the current standings (and hopefully the spreadsheet if I can figure out a managable size) will be posted. Good luck!

To summarize this week's News:
  • Version 2.0 Rules Posted
  • Version 1.0 Final Results Retraction + Improvement Plan Posted
  • Addressed the ability to change vehicles mid-cycle
  • Added an area for potential new members to post their interest, or for new teams to discuss forming.

I look forward to seeing to some great tanks this week.

Best FE,

The Commish
