I added the VW Wundercar II(118 mpg, 0-60 mph 12 seconds, 112 mph top speed, diesel), the Opel Astra ECO4(54 mpg, 0-60 mph 13.5 seconds, 109 mph top speed, diesel, practical family car), and the Renault Twingo SmILE(71 mpg, 0-60 mph 14 seconds, 93 mph top speed, gasoline).

If anyone is willing to help, I am currently in the process of looking for information and photos of the following:

Peugeot 307 HDi
GM Lean Machine
GM TPC
Ford Reflex
Citroen Dynavolt
Aptera
Enigma L3
Lotus Extreme
Honda J-VX
Honda IMAS
Seat Arosa 1.5 TDI Stella
VW Polo 1.4 TDI
Peugeot 206 HDi 90 eco Pr.
Opel Corsa 1.7 Di 16V
Toyota Volta
Honda Daulnote
GM Aero X (Not to be confused with the new Saab concept)
GM Aero2000
GM HX3 Hybrid Van
Buick Questor
GM Runabout
GM-X Stiletto

If someone else joined in, it would make things much faster. I'm currently compiling an evworld.com article. I will be giving people credit.

If there are any interesting cars that I missed, please share! I'm interested in the following archetypes:

-Midsize cars that get over 50 mpg U.S. combined
-Sports cars that get over 50 mpg U.S. combined.
-Supercars and exotics that get over 40 mpg combined while doing 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. If they come close to these targets even, at least mention them
-Family wagons, SUVs, pickup trucks, and minivans that get over 40 mpg U.S. combined
-Luxury cars that get over 40 mpg U.S. combined
-Compact cars that get over 50 mpg U.S. combined
-Any V8 that gets over 30 mpg combined

Hmm, I'll have to learn how to do that real quick. When I publish this blog article, the images will be converted to jpeg and shrunk down to about 15-20k each, with one image per car being a set of 3 images combined into one.

The GM Ultralite was featured as a police cruiser in the futuristic film "Demolition Man". The Toyota ES3 looks really nifty. At 87 mpg, I seriously hope Toyota makes it a production car.

This should be stickied. Bumping a 2 year old thread to see what has changed since then.

I could go for either the Toyota ES3 or the Audi A2, both look practical and economic, as long as the price is right. I get 75+mpg from my Ninja 250 bike. It cost $3k and accelerates faster than most cars. All I need a car for is the bad weather days and when I need to move something that will not fit on the bike. Parking is also much easier and free where most cars have to pay.

Is it a requirement that if a car gets high MPG it has to look bug eyed or bloated? Half those cars are so ugly PT Cruiser owners would even make fun of them.

And now we know why mileage hasn't improved appreciably in the last 30 years.

Not totally, but yeah a little, compare the Loremo LS/GT to the Mitsubishi I. The Loremo gets 2x the mileage and doesn't look nasty. Something like the Bionic, aerodynamic yet not bug eyed.

People are only going to sell a car that people want to buy. Maybe now people will be a little more apt to looking past aesthetics to buy a super high mileage car but this is a business just like it always has been and always will be. People will only buy what they want to be seen in.

Brainwash the public into thinking looks don't matter anymore and you'll solve this issue. Just remember, models don't have a lot of fat on them so if they go hungry they'll die off quickly!

I understand, believe me. I was venting.

OTOH, we'll see what people think when every Chinaman has a car and gasoline is 5 to 10 bux a gallon.
