Effectiveness aside, why would you think that? Teflon is chemically stable to temperatures a lot higher than your oil will typically see. It's also fairly inert, unless you know of some possible reaction with a component of motor oil... Or do you think it would break down during the oil reprocessing? (not that I'd go eating the stuff, either...)

My truck is starting to sound like a diesel on cold mornings, I've been thinking I might put in some kind of additive...

Teflon is safe for contact with food, or at least I hope it is. They've been coating frying pans with the stuff for about 50 years now.

HC - What oil are you using? A synthetic 0W30 should stop that.

I'm running dino 5W30 per manufacturers recommendation, but I've got almost 200,000 miles so it might be time to do something a little better.

I've been running synthetic since I bought my truck (it had 108,000 miles when I bought it) and I've been using 0W30 for roughly a year now. It runs real quiet. Often I get stuck behind people walking straight down the middle of the lane in a parking lot and they seem shocked when they turn around to see a big 4x4 pickup behind them, and I've been there behind them for a couple of minutes. You can't hear it running from 15-20 feet away.

The oil film coating the cylinder and pistons is going to rise to temperatures much higher than the oil temperature.

Think at minimum, the average between the oil temperature and the combustion temperature.

Secondly, the chance that that spent motor oil will be burned out at sea is very very high.

I've been using a bottle of Slick 50 or similar product with teflon in my '88 Escort every 50K miles since it had 150K miles on it and it's now at 503K miles and never had a rebuild. I had the oil pan off of it a few years ago when it had about 400K miles on it to replace the gasket and the bottom side was clean as a pin and this is a car that was driven to work on dusty construction sites for about the first 12 years and 350K miles of it's life. I've also used it in all my other cars every 50K miles for about the last 12 years. I also use a bottle of STP or similar treatment in the '88 to help keep oil consumption down and have been doing it for probably about the last 200-250K miles.

I also tried a teflon laced additive in a moped a few years ago. Prior to the treatment it was consistantly getting 100-103 MPG and the mileage on it went to 105-110 MPG. If there was any difference in mileage on the cars it was much smaller of course probably less than 1 MPG.

Just don't use those pans in a home with pet birds.

Does Slick 50 still use teflon? Last I looked at it, the package was going on about a new formulation.

Just buy good synthetic oil in the first place, those products are called snake oils for a reason.
