Dynamic brakes... that would have been awesome! Leave the engine idle while the hydraulics control decent.

If I still had that car I'd try a couple of things.

-Using 1st gear for engine braking and using the gas to keep up a speed. It'd be slower unless i revved 1st out to 5-6k for about 30 minutes(which wouldn't be a problem) and I wouldn't be in DFCO. However, at high rpm that engine had a tendency to suck the thermostat open.

-If I wanted to modify, I could put in a toggle switch that would tell the ECU that it's actually only 75 degrees ECT instead of the real reading so it would never go into DFCO as long as the switch is flipped.

-I could hold the engine just off idle in 2nd and use the brakes for additional stopping when I start going too fast. Unfortunately, this idea probably won't work since even in 2nd I needed to use the brakes off and on the whole time down.

-I could also not go up there at 1 in the morning and just use the tram like a normal person that time of year too...
