What is it with November?

Last year some one shot the window out of my Golf.

This year, hit and run.

Insurance totaled it, buying it back wasn't an option, they bent the shock mount, $2800 to fix just that.

So... I'm getting another car. (and not something like the SUV they gave me as a rental. The mileage isn't that bad considering, but the handling is horrible. Now I know why they're upside down all over the place all winter long.)

Sorry to hear it.
Hope you get a good settlement - and a car you really like.

That really sucks man. I'm praying that your next car will be untouchable. Update us on your next choice.

It has to be a family car, me and the 3 kids, school bags, groceries, football/sport of the moment equipment, all at the same time. Hypermiler, handles like a Miata, oh and a babe magnet: for $1000.

I feel like Peter Parker trying to compete with the jocks new Prowler, and circling a TR-3 in the paper... what I want isn't what I can afford. You can't have everything at once, so I'll go with a cheap sedan or wagon.

Unfortunately, gas prices have made some of my favorites expensive. Econo boxes with 150k mi are asking $3000, while a similar ford taurus goes for $600. $2400 is a lot of gas. At a 15mpg differential it equals out in about 9 years with the amount I'm going to use it. At that rate I'd rather have a comfy car (buick) than an econo box (kia sephia).

I'm biased toward foreign (esp German) cars, but there is almost no one in the area that really works on them. Here there are a the american dealerships and small mechanics who work on... cars from american dealerships. And everyone (except me and the kids it seems) prefers full size trucks.

Oh, and front wheel drive.

Not the Pika-soo-bah-ROOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! :

Attachment 1097

Maybe there is a Ford Escort wagon or Saturn mini-wagon in your future. Probably too small. And not as fun to drive as the Suby, I think, .

Would an L-Series Saturn Wagon be good? They were based on Opel Vectra/Saab platforms, I think (http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21).

I'll cross my fingers hoping that a real nice/thrifty family wagon pops up soon.
