Toyota recommends 5w30.

I think it would be OK to go from 5w-30 down to 0w-30. I believe that others here on this forum have done it.

Re: Which Amsoil Synthetic is Best

The 0w- will be fine, but won't give much in way of fuel economy improvement outside of winter. You might be able to find a 5qt jug of 0w30 Mobil 1 at Walmart for less than the Amsoil. While not available in 0w-, the Supertech synthetic there is supposedly a good value. If Toyota has back certified the engine for 5w20, and they might have, the Motorcraft synthetic blend is also good.

Here's a new hitch. I'd recently contacted Amsoil, to find a local dealer in my area. It turns out, that the place that they've set me up with, happens to be some guy selling the stuff out of his home. Should this worry me?

not at all...he's likely a legit dealer.

I thought that was how most Amsoil was sold.

Re: Which Amsoil Synthetic is Best

If I were the OP, I'd consider using a High Mileage oil for a few OCI, to help with any seal problems he may be having, and then go over to his synthetic of choice. Call it OCD, I just have that as my way of switching to synthetic now, short cleanup intervals using HM oils and perhaps something like Marvel Mystery Oil for the last 500 miles before it all comes out. That way, the synthetic won't do drastic cleaning in on fell swoop and the OP leave it in there for an extended drain interval.

Just my .02 cents...
