Would like the Cliff Note version on Civic's

Being a non Honda owner can someone explain the difference between
EX, HF, LX, and a VX. I know what a CRX and SI are. When you guys talk about the other versions of the Civic I'm lost. I would like to understand what makes one version better then the other for gas mileage.

it depends on the generation. hx and vx are the most economical. dx is the base. ex is a little more powerful with power everything. lx is the ex with the dx motor/trans. cx is the cheapest of everything.

The CRX and civics both came in a range of trim levels, the crx had the base model, then the DX that had a few more frills but the same engine, HF had lighter weight suspension, no frills, light wheel steel wheels, and an engine tranny combo that were designed for 50+mpg, the crx SI had all of the frills and a more powerful engine, in first generation crx's the SI was the only one with fuel injection, 2nd generation crx's the SI had a 1.6L engine instead of 1.5L

In 1992 Honda started selling a few civics with variable valve timing (vtec), the civic vx had the 1.5L vtec-e engine, the civic HX replaced that model in 1996 with a 1.6L vtec-e engine, both of those engines are tuned for fuel economy instead of high horse power numbers, the result was high torque at lower speeds.
CX is the base model hatch back only.
HX is a coupe with a trunk only. (I think)
VX is a hatch back only.
HF is a CRX only.
