an autox wont heat the exhaust up that much... the bursts of work dont generate nearly enough heat as an uphill climb for a minute. or even a highway drive.

so aside from all the negatives, are there ANY measurable positives to having this setup???

All you have to do i slook at the header at night in darkness and then rev the engine a little and watch the red glow. My BMW R100S would get cherry red without wind cooling it at idle but you can only see it glowing at night.

I would coat the whole thing if I could afford it. I made the exhaust myself, and piping is cheap, or free. I wrapped the headers thinly (didn't overlap, or wrap with the Aluminum), so I think the headers will last a litle while. If it rots beyond the headers, I'll just make a new setup. I don't drive it enough to measure the gains, but will do a 400 mile round trip run, to see what the mileage is. My best so far is 33mpg, before my engine management system the exhaust thing, and many other modifications.
The one positive thing so far, is that it's less annoyingly loud

Whats the benefit to this setup? I mean logistically, what good does this do?

You beat me to it. What is the expected result?

Also, what kind of results are you getting with the ram air and aftermarket muffler?

Keeping the exhaust gasses hotter for a longer period of time, which will theoretically increase it's velocity and scavenging effects on cylinders on the exhaust stroke, and increase engine efficiency.

We'll just have to wait and see what kind of reliability downsides there are to this.

Have you had a chance to check the mpg difference after the wrap??

Thanks. I get to see a lot of engines, and I see a lot of things wrapped, but mostly to stop them from affecting other parts of the engine.

I'm looking at using a cone for my Acura TSX. I was wondering how the RAM air affected your performance.

I'm not a diehard hypermiler. I am into performance, and if I can save money I'll do it. I am also a bit different in that if there is no net savings, I won't do it. If I have to spend $100 to save $80, I won't do it. I think that's a bit different from some here. Some seem to be happy to spend on a mod in the interest of research even if it creates a net $ loss.

So I revisited this thread...
It's holding up fine, but it's not my daily driver.
The ram air, and exhaust gave me some HP, but I don't know exactly how much. Unfortunately, the dyno doesn't pick up the ram air effect. I also haven't calculated the mileage exactly on this car. On my DD, the fuel light comes on steadily at exactly 10 gallons down. This one is slightly less.

I like what your doing. Dont get it ceramic coated, I think they do that to keep under hood temps down.

Carefull however, I did this same thing but the tape can start on fire.

My tape didnt last at all, it lifted up and trapped moisture.

You will see big improvements in performance and efficiency for sure!
