I've got..
Stock jack, lug wrench, spare.
couple of pairs of vicegrips,
large and small adjustable wrench.
Large flat screwdriver.
Duct tape
couple of wire coathangers
spare serpentine belt.
spare fluids.
small tire air compressor.
jumper cables.
Spare plug wire.

Sometimes have whatever size wrench I think might be needed for anything I just adjusted or keeps coming loose. (10mm in Marvin for the wipers)

Don't think there's actually many occasions where I actually would have been able to do anything on the side of the road for things failing, no matter what tools I had... have CAA (AAA for Canadians) and have been towed for, siezed water pump (Timing belt driven), blown core plug, diff explosion with holed transmission, brake line failure (large and right off the master cylinder), ignition cylinder seizing, head gasket letting go, fuel pump failure...

All I can remember fixing on the road is...
changing tires.
tightening marvins wipers,
loosening off the parking brake cable one time after I'd freed up the adjusters on the back brakes, somehow it was fine when I checked it but tightened right up on a test drive, and dragged the brakes.
wiring a muffler back up.
Oh yeah, hammered a few starters.

Hmmm maybe I [i]could[/i} have got round the ignition cylinder failure in an hour or so with a steering wheel puller, a file, a couple of wrenches and screwdrivers and a jumper wire.... I guess I could have fixed the core plug if I had had an expanding rubber stopper, and 2 gallons of coolant (it shot the lot)

There was probably a McGyver method round any of those if I'd have been 200 miles from civilisation, but I wasn't.

I remember The RoadWarrior..To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..the world was powered by the black fuel & the desert sprouted great cities..Gone now, swept away..two mighty warrior tribes went to war & touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

Mostly I've used the small amount of tools in my car at the dump to steal parts from things.

Could be useful for quickly patching up those pesky parking lot dings before the wife sees them...
Lesse...

Jack
Spare
Screwdrivers
Several kinds of pliers and vise-grips
Socket set
Digital multitester
Stuff to whack things with
Steel-toe boots
Salt
Pepper
Sterno stove
Weeks worth of food
about 20 bottles of water
Couple changes of clothing
80-15 meter QRP CW Transceiver (Heathkit HW-8)
Straight Key (Prewar)
Slinky antenna
2-meter FM transceiver
Homebrew 2-meter mag-mount antenna
Probably some other stuff I forgot.

Don't see any difference in mileage with or without the stuff in the car.

When I was a kid, I always carried a can of V8 in the trunk of the Corvair. Just so I could say I had a V8 in it.

Well i guess there is no need to drive a bucket of bondo around with me, but it seems like a fine place to leave it. It's less than 3 feet from where i'll need it next.

I remember that style bottle of Joy! Looks like early '70s. I used to use it to wash the car (gentle soap, tough on oil stains on back from lousy gaskets and a little from the crankcase vent) and it made a great hand soap! Also good in the shower when covered with auto ooze!

Never used the Pride...wasn't much into lions...
