not sure if it was sarcasm but a sleeper is a stock looking car that is heavily HEAVILY modified.

a good example is an old frend of mine had a honda civic hatch that had everything including the rusted steelies on it. the motor was built and had a nitrous shot on it. he was making around 400rwhp before the nitrous. he didn't use the nitrous often (didn't need to).

just looking at it, it looked like every other 92hp civic hatch out there.

Yup, a sleeper is all business and no talk. It's the opposite of a ricer - a car (traditionally of Asian descent but these days any car will do) with visual modifications that attempt to look like stuff that makes the car faster, but do not actually make the car faster.

I was part of a dodge truck forum once and there was a diesel guy there that had a monsterous truck. I think it was a 1996 but it looked like it had just come off of the show room floor. it shined and looked completely stock.

come to find out that he ran a shop that specialized in diesel performance. he was pushing 90psi on his twin turbo setup and was using water injection to cool it all down. I saw him at a dyno day push 809hp 1416ft/lbs of tq. he sent me a vid of him running an 11.5 second qtr. (please remember that these trucks weigh 6000lbs+)

even the exhaust looked stock on that truck.

sleeper: S10 Pickup w/ a Camaro Iroc Z engine. i had a buddy w/ one that used to race(and destroy) 5.0 Mustangs in the 90s. he had 4 wheels in the bed to hold down the rear axle. the truck was all beat up to boot!

with a few mods, it prolly could have been track ready!

Guys keep in mind that the Geo motor is 3 cylinders and 1.0 liters . . . on the other hand my BMW R100S is 1 liter and two cylinders and puts out 75HP stock NA.

Bear in mind that the Metro weighs in at about 1700 lbs. 100 hp would be equivalent to about 225 or so in a 4000 lb car.

Looks pretty cool...I WANT those headers!

As for being slow...I have a 1926 National Geographic with an ad for a Stutz car...which was a pretty high performance car for its day. They were crowing about its acceleration...15 to 50 mph in 18 seconds. Even my stock AUTOMATIC Geo Metro will beat that!

It's the big fish in a very small pond. There are bigger fish in just about every larger pond.

if you watch the video of that thing its not fast at all, cars dont enter the realm of fast until they get below 17sec quarter mile( he is not that, you need to get right up to 40mph to get even close to that point, so im thinking hes only getting 15hp out of his mods they arent much at all bored out intake and exhaust headers dont mean much when added to a 55 hp setup, add stuff like that to a 150hp block then you have some real noticible gains i got 13-14 second 0-60 my sl2 is 8 seconds

My old car... A sleeper. Grandpa car Buick Regal with a turbo.. hehe Caught quite a few people off guard (hood and wheels kinda gave the car away a bit, but still most thought it was a "grandpa car"):
