I'd like to remove the engine. It looks very heavy. I bet I could save a ton of gas that way. :)

When I droped the wife off at her place of work the car got spunky. :)
Now if I could get rid of the tools in the trunk. |

I removed the rear seats, brackets, seat belts. All the rear interior panels, scraped off the asphalt like soundproofing, removed the sound deadening pad from under the carpet. took the soundproofing off the firewall. I put the front seats back in the car though, The soundproofing was 45lbs rear seat and interior panels were around 70lbs. I covered the bare metal with thin carpet using spray adhesive. It doesn't look that bad but makes the car drive way better. |
All The interior parts in my trunk are gone except Spare tire and jack.
I am not going to list all the crap but I have taken out 50-100 pounds of stuff. Weight reduction isn't a good idea. It makes you car noisy. |

If you don't mind the noise. Here is a list of the weight of just about anything non critical to a saturn (I have posted this link before but I am sure some of you haven't seen it).

- I have to admit I took the spare, jack & tools out (-28 lbs). I put them back in for highway trips. But local driving, meh.
- Now that the SG is dialed in, I was going to stop filling the tank up (actually, since I fill up so infrequently, I was going to syphon out what's remaining, down to about 1/4 tank) (-36 lbs). But I haven't done this yet because it's been raining for about a week. - And I've been toying with the idea of taking out the passenger seat (-29 lbs) Which would mean a grand total of... -93 lbs (Edit: = -5.1% of total vehicle weight) Coyote: you're a crazy man. Is the 45 lbs of sound deadening you're talking about just the stuff on the floor under the carpet?! Front and rear? Also, in my car anway, you'd be further off leaving the rear seat in (6 lbs cushion, 16 lbs backrest = 22 lbs) than the front seat @ 29. :) Plus gain an extra seat - important if you're concerned about your "PPW-s" rating (passengers per weight of seating). |
