I have spotted 3 or 4 new scooters around town in the last few weeks. Saw a new Vespa today. Someone at the marina I sail out of got the Yamaha Ruckus-lookalike.

Something's up in scootering, because last summer, I literally saw none (here).

Scooters are quite commonplace almost everywhere else in the world, but in North America they hardly exist...Times may be changing, though.I rode all kinds of scooters in England in the '60's and '70's...loved 'em....When I came to Canada,I switched to conventional bikes, until last year, when I found and bought my last, and best,bike...a scooter,a Suzuki Burgman 650.Its a monster for a scooter, more like a baby Goldwing.Fast, comfortable for 2,tons of storage, and good on gas.I feel like I have come full circle, and I'm hoping I can ride this thing until I'm really ancient...

Canadian 'easy riders' on the rise

"Iconic Italian images usually include women dressed in Gucci and heels zooming down cobblestone streets on their stylish scooters. But that much-romanticized vision is now gaining speed in the Great White North."

Does this count as a scooter sighting :)

I thought I'd throw this one in too, I found it in my storage shed last week. It's a 1988 Yamaha Riva 200cc scooter. Not my actual bike, but I will try to get a pic up soon. (Mine is in much worse condition on the outside).

About six months ago, I upgraded from a 50cc Yamaha Zuma to a 250cc Vespa GTS.

I love it so much. I've never reached the max speed, and I've been up to 80MPH before. It seems to be getting 70 - 75MPG, but I haven't done any real testing other than resetting the trip meter every time I fill up.

I live in Orlando, Florida. I see other scooters around, sometimes. There's a couple that have a matching Ruckus pair over by where I work. I occassionally see a guy on a green Vespa near where I live, too. At the university, I regularly run across a guy on a Vino 125, and a couple others I don't recognize.

I more often see motorcycles, though. Two wheeled vehicles are becoming more popular recently, while trucks are closely followed by SUVs for the most common types of vehicles I see around. Pretty sad, in my opinion.

Anyway, picture time!
