why do you have the honda civic at 42/46 when the VX is 47/56???

I'd love to get a hold of a first gen Insight, but they want a pretty penny for them.

Beware of cheap hybrids. With that kind of age & mileage they may be cheap because they need new batteries.
|
I don't think a $7,000 or $8,000 Insight with 100k miles is much of a bargain, when you can pick up something like a Hyundai Elantra or Chevy Cavalier of the same vintage with 50k miles for $3000. That $4,000-5,000 will buy enough gas to run the car another 50k miles, at which time the Insight engine needs a rebuild, and the Hyundai still has another 50k left in it.

This thread looks accurate to me. I get around the same for my '02 Corolla, a little better though mostly.

The Golf and Jetta TDI diesels were not available in the US in 1996. The non direct injected diesels didn't get the mileages indicated. Indeed the Golf TDI wasn't available until 2000(?).
For 1996 the Passat TDI would be the highest mpg diesel (37/45), for 1997 the lighter Jetta (no Golf) would be it. 1998 the Jetta (3rd gen "A") or New Beetle (4th gen "A"), different engines, too, would duke it out. 1999 saw the Jetta also (finally) switch to the 4th gen chassis. |
Yep, my 94 VX lean burn, VTEC-E was EPA rated at 46/56.

You should also look at the date of the original post.. It was made in 2005, so it is over 4 years old. |
I am testing the platinum gassaver
My neighbor has talked about a gas saver that he found in his fathers old garage (deceased) he claims he picked up 3 mpg on his 2002 Ford Expedition. He gave me one to try on my 2001 Ford Taurus and will have to see what happens. It took less than 15 minutes to install and right now I just started my car and the dispenser is bubbling. For better or worse Im gonna report back the results. I currently average 20 mpg overall.

saturn, reading over another members post they said they were able to pull more mpg out of their sl1 than a metro, i just hit 44mpg not trying too hard
fuel economy.gov has saturn sl1 5speed as same mpg as mitsu mirage 1.5 5spd 1999 love how saturn is black sheep of the gassipper community |
I have picked up 3 mpg on my Ford Taurus
After having installed the Platinum Fuelsaver I am currently averaging 23.3 from 20 mpg. On one highway stretch recently I got 31 mpg which this vehicle has never gotten more than 27 on highway driving. Seems to have more pep.
To be continued....... |
that is unrelated to the thread, is this guy another spammer? and platinum fuel savers are best used as door stops if thats the case...
