Pro Version

I changed my smartphone and I reinstalled acar synchronizing my vehicles. I realized that I have a free license despite having purchased the licenseq pro since 2011 and I can not enter my license number.
Thank you

dhajduch 06-03-2018 10:46 PM

I'm in the same situation. I has a free license and app is full of ads, despite Fuelly claims that former Pro user will get at least ad free version for 2 years... Does anybody know how to get ad free version?

tlux63 06-09-2018 08:21 AM

I'm having the exact same problem. I've been using aCar since 2014 and purchased the license back then. I have Play Store receipt, but no Paypal receipt. What to do?

macgiver_2 06-12-2018 03:30 PM

I bought pro version 3 years ago

I bought pro version, how can I do for get back my money or eliminate ads??????

9009RPM 06-23-2018 12:24 PM

You can't! They removed the aCar Pro Unlocker from the play store. No way to get it!

banditz 06-29-2018 02:13 PM

I knew fuelly would eventually squeeze more money from us paid acar pro users. I guess I will just go back to the last acar version. I have backup for all my paid apps.

We aCar Pro users should be grandfather in. Or at least offer a lifetime subscription at a discounted price.

RamPMC01 06-30-2018 05:25 PM

I have been trying MyFuelLog2. It can import aCar files.

I have purchased 4 licenses for aCar since I started using it. two from the original developer and two since Fuelly took over. These licenses all promised I would get to use aCar ad free. The announcement that ads will start showing up is bull.

I have deleted my vehicles from aCar and from Fuelly.

Why are the photo attachments not included for old aCar Pro users?
Fuelly is trying to defray the extensive development costs and the server and hosting costs associated with storing the photos and PDF attachments.
So why not include an option for local (on phone) storage? Or to use an existing cloud solution (drop box, Google Drive, etc.)? No cost to you for server space that many of us don't want or need.

local storage is not ideal if you have multiple devices to sync.

But there is no reason for Fuelly to provide the servers. Many people already have a cloud option available to them and other apps allow you to use that for syncing across devices.

It's obviously clear...dollar dollar bills.

I'm on Fuelio now. GDrive or Dropbox sync with photos. No ADs and it's free.

SimplyAuto and Myfuellog2 both import aCar records. SimplyAuto seems to have a better UI. I have tried fuelio and yes it is free it does not do an aCar import unless you convert to a csv file. That means you need to manipulate the format of the csv on your computer to match.

On another note you can get the PRO key back if you go into Google play then select "My Apps and Games" then select "My Library" scroll through and you can find the PRO key and reinstall it. At least that worked for me.

At current I am trying all four apps (aCar, Simplyauto, Myfuellog2, Fuelio) to see which one I like the best before I completely drop aCar/fuelly. I plan to use these for about a month to see which one I decide.

If there is something else that imports aCar abp files directly, I am sure a bunch of us PRO refugees would be interested.

Transferred to a new phone, but can't get Acar Pro (already tried looking at my google app library) which also means I can't export to a CSV file. Have been a pro user for many years, and although fully claims I should be able to use app ad free, since I can't install pro key, my app is littered with ads that I am not going to spend another dime on removing. Sorry fully, looks like you lost another user.

saltygunner 10-25-2018 05:47 AM

I've had the same experience. The only way I've been able to address it is to re-enter my aCar donation ID every time a new version is released. It's extremely annoying and there needs to be a better experience. I've been using aCar since 2010, and I expect better from Fuelly regarding legacy customers. I don't use the app for fleet management, simply understanding the driving habits of my family. Fuelly - please fix this asap. It's getting to the point where I am considering switching.

EMY92 10-30-2018 10:17 AM

This problem began when we updated the app to target the latest Google API. We had to update the target API to keep the app working.

Google changed what they allow to be saved when apps update, unfortunately this affected Pro users. The currently architecture of the app does not allow a secure way to save the Pro installation when the app is updated.

aCar Pro & the bad experience of Fuelly

I've been an aCar Pro user since 2011. I had paid my money with the expectation of no ads forever. (as this didn't cost aCar ongoing costs, it made sense)

Ads started appearing in Fuelly this month, and I *was* able to re-enter my old aCar "Donation ID" to get rid of the ads. But I felt betrayed by Fuelly until I read on the Forum that this was caused by a Google API upgrade. I think better communication with users could have helped.

I've lost the functionality of being able to use geolocation to pull up the closest gas station. I understand that this costs Fuelly money now, and it didn't before. So while I miss that, I don't begrudge them the subscription fee.

BUT, I read on the website that aCar Pro users will only be ad-free for 2 years. I think that's a violation of the previous agreements.

So while I think that the $5/year is small enough that the premium features probably make it worthwhile.... I feel that Fuelly is not honouring the spirit of the agreement made to aCar users. (keeping the app ad free would be easy to do, and they chose to not do that)

For that reason, I'm considering the alternate programs.

One suggestion on the PR front: Keeping old aCar users as "Pro" (ad free for only 2 years) but not auto-upgrading them to "Premium" seems like the wrong approach to me. Instead, if you declare that they have a free "Premium" subscription for 2 years (after which they'd have to pay), then you'd have "automatically" moved us towards Premium (and let us get used to all the good features) instead, we're looking at the upgrades that we THOUGHT we'd paid for, and now are being denied. (that's the perception)

joelastblow 01-22-2019 04:22 PM

This was an amazing experience, glad I'm not alone. I purchased acar in 2011, every time I've switched phones or had any trouble I was able to enter my donation ID to get "pro" features back. Well I just discovered that a prior update has kicked me out of "pro" into free land with ads everywhere. I was not able to enter my donation ID w/o a fuelly account. I was forced to create an account but, after that, I was able to enter the donation ID to get rid of ads.

Unfortunately it's clear they don't care about my prior purchase. They are giving us a "grace" period to subscribe or GTFO.

aCar Pro

If I am moving aCar Pro to a new phone, here's the steps I used:

1. Old phone - Do full backup aCar Pro data, the filename is aCar-datetime.abp

2. Move the aCar-datetime.abp file onto the new phone into folder zonewalker-acar

3. New phone - install aCar app from Google play
- then do full restore using the above .abp file

4. All works fine.

I found a thread on this forum that claimed the unlocker app was back in the play store as late as September 2018. Gone again now?

EMY92 03-05-2019 05:23 AM

It's been gone from the open Play Store for much longer than that.

However, if you purchased the Pro Unlocker, it will be in the My Apps & Games section or Purchased Apps. It will always be there.

Aha! Finally some useful information!

How long will this last, though? Is it part of a migration period or is it forever?

EMY92 03-05-2019 05:31 AM

It will be this way until we complete a new version of the app. Don't know when that will be. Work has started, but I do not know when it will be ready.

IceBone 03-05-2019 05:33 AM

Thanks for the info!

wkiwamen 04-07-2019 05:54 PM

It has worked the process using the library from Google Play . Thank you!!

Disappointed in Fuelly

I confirm that you can go into your list of Android apps and locate the aCar unlocker, and reinstall it to unlock the Pro setting if you migrate to a new phone.

Having shared that ... I am among those that are disappointed with Fuelly for throwing those of us that are active Pro aCar users to the curb and forcing a subscription upon us. Not for us, this app would not have been so appealing to Fuelly to purchase in the first place.

Some options that would have likely sat far better with us would have been:
1) End of life to aCar Pro. No further development. Continued ad-free experience. Introduction of newer version of "aCar" with a license/usage model that was ad-supported or subscription based ad-free.

2) End of support for aCar Pro users, continue to get updates, no support unless you are a subscriber.

3) Maintain the existing Pro tier for a one time fee. Develop value for Premium subscription tier to entice people to subscribe; graphical reporting, raw receipt scanning, etc.

Personally, I could live with any of those three and not feel as bitter as I am with the current phase out plan of ad-free by mid-2020.

I like aCar. I don't want to look for an alternative. However, I also do not like the prospect of having to deal with advertisements sent to my phone when I use the app unless I pay up. It feels like ... extortion ... since I have no option to maintain a non-recurring expense experience like I used to enjoy as a Pro user.

BorgDog 05-28-2019 05:48 PM

I'd be fine just being on a stand alone aCar Pro app that I had to manually back up. there is nothing that fuelly has added to this once great app that I need. I understand servers and development costs money, but throwing a bunch of obnoxious ads at users is a sure way to lose said users. Throw me in the group looking for something else. I have no idea what or where my donation ID is, fortunately I also bought the Pro Unlocker on the play store so can still get at that and use the app at least for now.

mannRi 07-17-2019 01:26 AM

I'll never understand the logic of trying to scam users that already paid to pay even more. It will rarely pass or pass in such a small percentage it's negligible. If we already paid for subset of features you can ask us to pay for something you developed new but not for already paid features. It's insane.

Either limit us, old Pro users, to "old features" or give us some brutal discount on the subscription. The same model I already saw on so many occasion but nobody did what you are doing. Yes you are pro but nonetheless we will kill your pro in 2 year time and push you ads. I would rather pay some other solution two times more then accept this ultimatum.

youngholdjkl 08-21-2019 07:03 PM

Phone died perma-dead Saturday. New one arrived yesterday. This evening went to install aCar and sync everything up. I somehow found a copy of the Pro unlock on my SD card (yay me!), but had to jump through some serious hoops to get it to sync up with the fuelly servers. And since I'd started seeing that sync, I'd stopped doing manual backups. Last backup I could find was 3 years old and only of a car we don't own any longer. Finally got it going, but it was not easy.

Now I'm wondering if I should just find another app. I already paid my dues to use this app, and I resent being told I will have to pay again.

I've also noticed more and more apps are going with monthly or annual fees instead of a one time charge. Bovine excrement!

EMY92 08-22-2019 01:23 AM

To download the Pro Unlocker, go to your purchased apps in the Play Store, it will always be there. Even though it is no longer available in the Play Store, it will always be in your Purchased Apps.

If you did the old donation system, that is still available as well.

Braley 10-04-2019 02:58 PM

I am upset, as well. At first, I thought aCar Pro (which I bought in 2013) was the same as Premium, so I thought there was some mistake in asking me to upgrade to Premium. Also, my app says I have the free version, but I have the features of the Pro version. The documentation does not seem to distinguish between Pro and Premium. I found my Pro Unlocker in My Apps in Google Play, so the record is there, but my app wants me to upgrade to Premium, not to Pro, so the documentation I found in the FAQ section of Fuelly doesn't match my situation. I agree with others above that this is a shoddy business practice, and should be corrected. We paid for an ongoing service, and that service should not be reduced without compensating those who paid for it.

dkidwell 02-21-2020 10:12 AM

Unfortunately the pro unlocker is no longer in the play store. New phone, and the unlocker is in my order history, but when I attempt a reinstall, I get "This item isn't available"

rudysm 05-09-2020 12:50 PM

I paid the annual fee for the app, good through july 2020, however app is now showing me to be a free user, what gives???

EMY92 05-09-2020 01:14 PM

Tap Restore Purchase or delete and reinstall, this will re-establish the connection with the Play Store.
