First RSX?
Searched the Garage and didn't see any Acura RSX's. There were a few of the older Integras. So I'm either the first, or the only current one I guess.
Just switched to the RSX from a Corolla and its a lot more fun to drive. Looks like I'm gonna get about 33mpg from my first full tank of gas so I'm not really losing any mileage from my boring econobox to my more fun econobox. I won't be winning any challenges cause I do enjoy the occasional spirited driving, and my RSX does double duty on the weekends hauling my bike gear around. Joined, because who doesnt enjoy saving a bit of gas?!? |
Welcome to the site! I just got rid of a 2005 Civic Si (the RSX's little brother). Very fun to drive, but yes, not that great on gas!
|
niiiiice car my friend has the rsx s and its hella fast not to great on fe tho itl be cool to see what it can do fe wise
|
It's all relative I guess.
I think you gotta have a little fun in life. Thank god you guys don't make up the majority of the car buying population or the daily commute would be quite boring. ;) |
Boring? Well, that's a matter of perception. ;)
I think you've already started to see that some folks here turn their commute into a challenge that is anything but boring. It's either a personal challenge or, as you saw, a team-based effort to hone driving technique and mod/tune their cars for max MPG. Welcome to the site! |

Welcome to the site.
I've always liked the RSX. Too bad they don't make them anymore. |

*Jealous* I really like the RSXs. Too bad even a used 2002 model in my area sells for around $23,000 :(, too rich for my blood.
|
I like to pretend that my Element is a ginormous RSX station wagon, since I think that they have the same or similar engine and maybe some other derivative stuff...
|
yeah i kinda turned it into a how much mpg can i get kinda thing so i can get my % over epa up

Welcome
Welcome to the site!
I have one of the old Integras here, and also wondered how an RSX would do. 33 is a pretty good baseline. As far as how aggressive you get with saving fuel, you can see there are options from mild to wild. Of course, the usuals -- higher tire pressures, getting a feedback device (ScanGauge, etc.) help quite a bit. The General Discussion thread has some busted/confirmed mods and theories to try in the stickies. It's all up to you in how much effort vs. fuel savings you attempt. Best FE, and we're here to answer any questions you have... RH77 |

Good point thisisntjared... and you reminded me that FE driving can be "exciting" in the usual sense too - I have confused the heck out of more than one person toodling along behind me by blasting through some turn without touching the brakes :D

It still can be quite a rush -- all in how you approach it. RH77 |
I have a 95 Integra GSR and a 90 CRX HF. When I first got the CRX I wondered if I could handle driving such a slow car, but after a couple of months I like driving it as much as the GSR, it's just different.
The other cool thing about having the CRX is that it makes my Integra seem like a luxery F1 car. |

I'll be doing some of the mild things mentioned here. Most of its common sense anyways and I've done it before finding out about this site. Drafting 18 wheelers though... Man I always try and avoid them. The dang stones seem to always be magnetic to my car. |
My friends think I'm crazy. The other day we were drving around Houston looking for d15z1s at salvage yards and I was of course driving like a Gassaver. I was crusing about 30 in 5th gear and then made my right hand corner going just as fast. My buddy was like "whoa you drive all slow on straight aways but take corners faster than most." I replied "yeah two rules for my drving. 1>accelerate slowlu 2>only use the brakes when necessary"
I love drving for FE. I can't wait till I install my 3.25 geared CX tranny next weekend because even 1-2mpg gain will be worth it to me. |

accelerating slowly doesnt save gas.
the more combustions you have in lower gears the more each piston goes back and forth. also, i dont know how ok and tx do inspections, but in nj you cant run obd1 in an obd2 car. anyway bbgobie, you have the right idea, stay away from 18 wheeliers, the cost of a windsheild every year is not worth the extra couple highway mpg. out of curiosity do you have the type s or base? |

Welcome to GS! I always thought the RSX was the closest thing to an "economy" sports coupe that you could get these days. You have the Honda pedigree, so I'll bet there's some MPG sweet spots in your ECU/PCM. CarloSW2 |

Edit: Forgot, I got the premium, auto. I do over 100km a day, and a lot of it is in heavy traffic, and my leg is already a bit sore, so I dind't want 2 wounded legs. |

unfortunately since you do have the auto, accelerating slowly does save you more gas. either way, enjoy the ride and yes you are the first rsx in gassavers:) |

Too bad about the RSX's. Would've been fun to compare with someone who has the same car. |
yea... ive got a friend who put an rsx-s motor in his 94 civic... he gets 30-32mpg.
|
A guy I work with has an 06 Type S. Definetly a faster, more refined car then my 95 GSR. He's averaging about 27mpg compared to the 29.5 I'm getting om my GSR. I guess my car is better in at least one regard.

I assumed anyone with a RSX-s motor in a civic didn't do it for the FE :D |
