How can I increase the MPG on a VW CC 4cyl/manual?

How can I increase the MPG in a 2011 VW CC 4cyl/manual?
I noticed some members with the same vehicle are getting in excess of 31 mpg. Wondering if they can share what may be helping them to get this consistent high MPG with this engine. Thanks!

I have a jeep patroit and believe that I should teach people how to get great mpg's out of their manual shift cars...Secret 1) plan your stops ahead of time so that you can spend the maximum time in neutral coasting to a stop.

Highway driving... drive at no more than 60mph.

Urban driving... Avoid if possible. Do not drive short journeys, use a bike / walk / public transport.

As said above, anticipate traffic well ahead, do not do the 'accelerate then brake for every light' routine.

Like has been stated, avoid hard acceleration and braking. Plan routes and on the move activities (look down the road), respond don't react to traffic. Use alterate trans when possible.

If you are like me, I tend to like to drive a little harder than most some times, so I have to be prepared to pay the price for that at the pump. 60 MPH is nice on certain highways, but on the interstate I drive 5 over when I'm trying to get good MPG, but I have been known go faster when I feel it is needed. Traveling at high rates of fule consumption is not good, but a reality for some of us occasionally.

grill block in winter, over inflate your tires. dont accelerate to slow, dont accelerate to fast,, shifting should feel very smooth ,, and it always helps to shift early,, MOMENTUM is key,, drive 100 km per hour on flat ground drive in the right lane and push in your mirrors when safe to do so ,, gain momentum as you approach a hill (120 km ph) slow down as you climb the hill then coast the crest and down ,, maintaining your momentum and free speed from the hill with slow deceleration back to 100 kmph oh very important use SHELL gas through personal experience i gained 10 MPG!! using shell regular gas.. guaranteed to help out,, enjoy your ride
