Who Sells Geo Metro Engines

Due to the ever rising gas prices, I've rekindled my interest in buying another Geo Metro. I used to own one, whereas I'm rather surprised by the suggested asking price for a 100,000 mile plus Geo Metro. As of late, this can range anywhere from $2500 to $5000 on Ebay or Craigslist.

Considering the source, my primary concern is that you can never too sure about the history or condition of these vehicles, especially when they're being sold "AS IS" and site unseen. Additionally, some people are trying to pass off base model Geo Metros as XFI's, by swapping out the VIN numbers & slapping on the stickier in the back.

In the attempt to avoid all of this drama, I've decided that it may be a better idea to restore a used XFI with a remanufactured engine & transmission. The overall goal to tweak out as much fuel economy as possible. My question to anyone in the forum is to ask, who by reputation sells or remanufactures qualitily Geo Metro XFI engines & transmissions?

Thank You

Google "Geo Metro remanufactured engines"
You will get several hits on engine rebuilders.

and if you're rebuilding everything, then swap out the stock 5 speed transmission to one from a 4 cylinder Metro. It has taller gearing in it which will help increase FE.
