New toy 98 Benz SLK

Picked this one up on the DC craigslist. #852535627

98 Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor
98k miles
$6800

4 minor flaws nothing serious.

My son in law bought it for me tonight. Will pick it up Oct 10th.

Maybe not a hypermiler, but a great price for one very nice machine.

Every old man needs a toy!

EPA website (which doesn't list a '98, but does list a '99) gives 22mpg combined, and 27 or 28 highway (depending on automatic or manual transmission), which beats my Eldorado...and I always thought that "KOMPRESSOR" looked more imposing than just "Supercharged". :)

Enjoy!

One of my high school students just traded her hand-me-down Kompressor for a new g4 Pontiac (what a downgrade).

Good luck with your toy!

This G4?

Doesn't sound so bad. Probably get better FE.

My experience with EPA mileage ratings is I usually get about 110-115% of the old highway ratings, in almost anything I have owned for the last 10 years. Thats combined city and highway.

97 Altima
99 F150 V6 manual
05 Scion XB
06 Toyota Corolla
94 Del Sol
94 Civic VX

I have always liked the Benz SLs going back to the pre war (WW2) monsters they built. Saw one of them in Houston in 1982, belonged to one of the members of ZZ TOP.

This is probably the only one I will ever actually buy, and I love the retractable hardtop, and the smaller 4 cylinder engine.

The old highway rating was 30, I am hoping to average 33. The car will be a toy, with my VX doing most of the transportation when I am alone. The wifes Murano will get fewer miles and our overall average will probably stay close to the same, at about 42 MPG for all of our vehicles.

10 Attachment(s)
Made some different arrangements brought it home yesterday. Rough guess was high twenties for mileage. Found out the tires were at 25 PSI, raised them to 32 front 35 rear, huge difference.

Nice ride and yes, good price! Hell, I just spent $2k on a '96 Miata w/ a hackjob turbo kit slapped on it that doesn't even run!!

What is this about the Pontiac G4?? I thought it was the G5.......???n They've been on the road for like 3 years now, right?

civic94 09-28-2008 05:28 PM
