Winter is Approaching
 

Hey everyone, I am brand new to the site and have a quick ???. I live in Indiana and it is starting to get cold. I dont think my HHO is going to be non-affected since just using water and baking soda. Does anyone done any experimenting with solutions for winter. Let me know, the whole reason I built the generator is to use it all year round, not just seasonal.

I don't know what might be used, but alcohol will evaporate out of the cell when it gets warm (IE, in use). I don't know what adding a splash of antifreeze to the mix might do. A lot of antifreeze solutions are designed to coat metal surfaces to help protect them. This may reduce the efficiency of your cell.

I don't think there really is an answer for using a HHO cell during freezing temps. You could run electric heaters when you park the car, but then what do you do when your not parked at home. Plus you really don't save anything if you need to pay to heat it. I keep kicking around an idea of making a cell in a Stanley Vacuum Thermos. That might insulate it enough to park over night, but then if your cell is inefficient it may cause overheating and boiling sooner.

There is an answer. Use water/methanol mixture, a.k.a. windshield washer fluid.

Another reason not to heat your fuel cell is that pesky Hydrogen. You could cause an explosion at the right temps.

Not necessarily, you could use an aquarium heater. Some of them can be set as low as say 50 degrees.

Now a hot plate, that might be a little much.

Hydrogen wouldn't likely ignite from a heater unless there is a spark or flame. It has a self ignition temp of 1022 deg. F, a bit higher than gasoline. I'd have to agree with jay that alcohol/methanol would evaporate quickly while the cell is running.
The Hindenburg's skin would of burned no matter if it was filled with hydrogen or helium, it was doped with key ingredients of solid rocket fuel.

The exact right mixture of sodium hydroxide is safe to about -15C or so.

then does anyone know what the temp protection for potassium hydroxide since sodium hydroxide is -15?C
