Energy saving tyres - a complete con?
Take a look at this website - https://energysaver.michelin.co.uk/
Its a calculator that will calculate the total savings you will make out of the whole life of an energy saving tyre. I put my details in and i'm shocked to find - ?48 saving OVER THE WHOLE LIFE OF THE TYRE!!!what a waste of time!that barely even covers the cost of the (i'm guessing) more expensive tyre. My tyres are 60psi - this will save me hundreds if not thousands over the life of the tyre! |
it all depends on how much you drive. but yes low rolling resistance tires are proven to improve fuel consumption.

I'd wonder how much more those tires cost. I'd save $210 dollars, according to that calculator, making them well worth buying instead of some other tires. Yes, I currently pump my tires up to 50psi, but I would do the same with those LRR tires. I am happy to see any attempts at marketing LRR tires. |
My new Michelins at $231 total installed with free balancing for life, and guaranteed for 80k miles, actually cost me 3 MPG average.
The 15 year old original tires were actually in fairly decent shape, so I kept them. The difference in ride quality, handling, braking, as well as tire noise are worth the loss in mileage, although it would have been nice to not have to sacrifice mileage in the first place. regards gary |
