How short their memories are...
 

You'd think that people would still remember $4/gallon gas and $5/gallon diesel. It was here a scant few weeks ago.

I just had trick-or-treaters whose parent was idling the diesel quad cab long bed out on the street.

Well, diesels use very little fuel while idling. Plus it damages diesels to turn them on and off like that.

No need to shut it off and restart it, even if they don't own a gasoline vehicle. Park it and walk. The weather is beautiful and the houses aren't too far apart.

I guess I'm used to rural areas. When I was a kid the houses were several hunderd yards apart. I can remember taking my sister's kids trick or treating when they were younger. I put some hay bales in the back of my 74 chevy truck and the kids & the dog sat in the back going between houses down the road.

It's a rural area, but all I could afford was a house in one of few more dense neighborhoods -- houses probably average 50 yards apart.

The hayride idea is cool, thought wouldn't have worked for the guy I saw because of the cap on his truck.

My parents drove me through similar neighborhoods for trick-or-treating, and I thought it was pretty lame.

Guess I had it pretty good growing up in a relatively affluent city neighborhood...we just walked. Nobody followed along in a car. Had to run an errand this evening, saw several parents in cars following the kids...guess it made them feel better (had someone shot and killed here a couple weeks ago), but why didn't they just walk with the kids?

during my deliveries to restaurants, i see people go to the drive-thru, then sit in the parking lot WITH THE CAR IDLING while eating.

it wouldn't suprise me to see fuel prices go back up to record highs as a result of overconsumption once again.

I used to do that. I generally am far more comfortable in my car than in a restaurant. If I needed A/C or heat I happily left the engine running...and even if I didn't, well, I didn't know any reason why I should care.

These days, when someone else is driving and idles at a long traffic light, I start to feel antsy about shutting the damn thing off already. My boss likes to idle and it drives me nuts.

Maybe they were running on Veggie Oil........???? Just a thought. Did you go out and sniff their exhaust pipe?

I agree though. People are driving pretty much like idiots again, not that they really stopped in my area in the first place. I half heartedly wished gas would go up to $6-$7 a gallon if it wouldn't turn the rest of the economy into turmoil. that wasn't a political statement so we don't need to go there.

even I will admit that people at work are talking about unnecessary trips again. things that they wanted to do and now it is easier because gas is cheaper. it is good to do things for yourself sometimes but the trend is becoming to use more gas and make more trips.

I am just thankful for the 30 dollar fillups again (my last fill was 33 and change) my most expensive fill that I can remember was 62 dollars in a cavalier. that is craziness but I feel like those numbers will come back again and even higher.

I am going to enjoy it while I can and continue the techniques from here regardless of the price. I have a little one on the way and I would rather spend my money giving her a better life than filling my tank.
