switched to synthetic gear oil last night:)

i'll see how it helps my FE over the weekend, going with synth motor oil too. i have to admit the trans shifts way smoother now, like butter. but DAMN that stuff adds up. $15 for a little under a litre of the castrol synthetic 75W90 (all i could find) and my gearbox needs about 2.12 L to drain and fill....after taxes there goes $50 for 3 bottles! hope it helps a little and pays for itself...anyone had good results from going with synthetic in the gearbox?

Only when I did it with Redline MTL in FWD cars. I don't have a particular love for Redline outside of MTL either, but it's results really seemed to be consistent over several cars.

A lot of new vehicles already run synthetic in the gearboxes. I just put some in my 95 Ford truck and it made a huge difference in how the truck drives. I think it improved my FE but it will take a couple more tanks to know for sure. Veiw my gaslog to see how it goes.

I switched my truck to synthetic ATF last week and you can't feel the shifts in it either. Its great, but added over $100 to the price.

Tranny's and diff's and t-cases and such that take the more expensive syn wt lubes are still worth it..... (They are more expensive than syn motor oils per quart)........My thought on this is because they are not changed as frequently as engine oil so that higher cost is projected over a longer period of time/mileage. You still also get the better lube qualities.

Just my thought on it.
