Powerstroke 6.0 diesel mods
Diesel engines respond to FE mods better than gas engines, because diesel part load efficiency doesn't drop very much. Gas engine efficiency drops at reduced loads due to throttling losses.
So, my Blue Beast ought to respond to FE mods better than a gas truck. With this in mind, I bought a grill block, skinny tires, and a FE chip, and they seem to help. Average mileage is over 18, but I'd love to crack 20 regularly. Where can I buy other FE mods like an underdrive pulley; electric fan; fastback truck cap; aero mirrors and wheel spats? I can find goodies for the 7.3 all over the place, but there are very few performance parts for the 6.0. Why? |

I used to be part of a truck club called dodgetruckworld.com I had a gas engine but most that had the cummins were also part of diesel truck world. not sure the web address I would assume just that and the dot com like the dodge truck world. I think they were mostly about making power but it may be another resource to look into.

I tried both of those sites: No underdrive pulley; no electric fan; etc for the 6.0, only the 7.3.
Why are there no FE parts for the 6.0?????????? |

I own a Powerstroke 6.0 and have had nothing but probla with overheating and poor fuel mileage. I just recently spent $6000 having new head gaskets, heads, egr delete kit, AFE STAGE 2 air intake kit, ARP head studs, EGR valve replaced, and a few other mods. I run a hypertech max energy programmer and an Steroid Power module by Defuser, have a Magnaflow 4" turbo back into 5" tip with cat and muffler delete. I'm still only getting a best of 14 mpg! I'm about to throw the towel in and get rid of this money pit and go with a Duramax! Unless someone can give me some ideas of what else I can do to get more out of this truck without blowing the enhinge from overheating. Help please! You can email me at michaeldsparks@comcast.net. What year/model vehicle is this powerstroke in ? We used to average 12 or 13 MPG in the E Super Duty ambulances I used to drive, and they were driven hard and idled a lot.

6.0 have a few design flaws if you can call them that. They are not a good performance base to start with. BUT..if you are going to play with it, very first mod is throw away the head bolts and go to studs as blown head gaskets are the first thing to go. (I see you went studs, good move)
With what you have done, (and the programmer set at lowest hp setting) I can't see why you would only get 14mpg...unless there are other things your not telling us, like the 35" tires and 6" lift kit and driving at 70mph etc. A reg cab f-250 with those mods should be getting 18-20mpg when driven easy. Does your truck dump out huge billowing clouds of black smoke when you step on it? Yes it does look cool..but that's your milage your looking at. |
