And my sister got me the Haynes book for my truck, which I desperately need.

I'll probably futz around with it on both for a couple weeks then put it on the truck for the winter. In spring it'll go on the VW.

Lucky you! I've always gotten the Haynes manual for every 2 or 4 wheeled vehicle I've had...can't live without them!

Wish I could put a Scangauge in the Geo...the Cad has a stone-age version built in...

I usually stick to the service manuals published by the manufacturer. I tried stuff like the Chilton's manuals when I was an ignorant teenager, and they just had enough information to get me to start a job, then when I took something apart, it didn't look like the picture... :(

I don't have any service manuals for The Beast, never needed them.

Jay, when I read your post I went to look at your Garage entry for The Beast again. When I got there I saw that you were successful with formatting, image embedding, and linking. How did you do that? I tried vBulletin-style code and HTML...

I just used Vbulletin code... Think about it. Look at the Hypermiler! images many have in their signatures. Click edit signature and you'll see what I mean.

[HTML]Partially block out the rear wheelwells. Maybe some computer hacking? At the next oil change I will switch to 0W 30 weight oil. This should help with my short trip/city mileage.

I'm thinking now maybe I'll install a bunch of airtabs instead of blocking the wheelwells. I figure I could get some spraypaint that matches the truck and paint the airtabs so they won't be as visible at a distance.

Both Haynes and Chiltons tend to have errors, sometimes just they might cost you a few minutes of frustration, other times you could break something expensive. FSMs can be a PITA for offering no alternative to replacement of some expensive assemblies, i.e. rebuilding or just hosing the hell out of them with cleaner or something and making no mention of workarounds for special tools and may assume you always have a hoist, and other spendy tools on hand. Ergo, get 2 out of 3 and compare between them. There's been a time or two I've looked something up in 4 or 5 sources, Haynes, Chilton, Motor, FSM and online database....... annnd they've all contradicted each other and seemed full of crap, so I end up figuring it out myself.
