Trouble Code PO401 EGR Flow Insufficient Detected
My daughter in law brought her car to me about the check engine light being on the other day, so I hooked up the code reader and got PO401 EGR Flow Insufficient Detected. I took the EGR valve off and cleaned it and cleaned the EGR port on the intake manifold and put it back together and it solved the problem. I just wanted to post this in case anyone else ever gets this code, but be sure you also clean the port in the intake. Her car has a port about the size of the end of my smallest finger and was nearly completely stopped up. The auto parts store had told her she needed a new EGR valve. WRONG!!!

I second that. I have a 2000 Civic HX with 120,000 and had the same code. Just bought a new EGR gasket and a can of cleaner. put it back together and the CEL is gone.

I had a similar code (can't remember the exact code) but basically needed to replace the EGR. a new one was $170 so I figured why not try and clean it.
a buddy of mine recomended using brake cleaner that left no residue along with a new gasket. that was quite some time ago (I may have posted about it here) but have had no problems since. so I guess this is an "I third that on just clean it and see how it goes" |
lol i tried this on my truck, didnt really work. ran fine when i took it off and blocked the hole :D been that way for 2-3 years now (SES light comes on but meh)
