Chips+Mpg

I'm sure that this is probably a dumb question, but would a 85 bmw 535i do worse on fuel with a conforti chip in it (Assuming still driven economically)? Also if so how much worse do you guys think it would be? Thanks so much guys!

I could see it improving economy since it is a REAL chip. It changes timing and fuel mappings which usually leads to improved fuel economy.

Since they recommend 91 octane I'd say they do more with timing than fuel.

I never liked the idea of "Best Guess Chips" for performance... but I am interested to see what people may have to say about these for Fuel Economy. Unfortunately I doubt this company designs and programs these with fuel efficiency in mind... usually the map is altered to add more fuel.

it might... only one way to find out.

I suspect that they work with power as such a big priority that most will reduce, not increase, FE. Custom tuning would be a much better option.

Depends on what all they did. If they left the cruise part of the maps alone(likely) then the improved efficiency up top could help fuel economy. Now, if they made it where it is even running rich at cruise then you'd definitely lose economy.

I emailed them asking about where in the map the real tuning is done and what they change more of, timing or fuel.
