vx distrib. cap
i replaced the dist. cap a couple thousand miles ago. i just checked it and the contacts have alot of crud caked on them. i scraped it off and it ran better. one of the screws on the cap was loose, would that cause it to crud so fast? what else would cause it?

A bad seal could be the cause, but typically resistance is the culprit, that is, resistance from the wires and plugs. I'd consider replacing the wires and plugs. I wouldn't spend more than $30 on aftermarket wires, 7mm's are just fine, and stock plugs are only $1.50 or $2 each. Verify the .044 gap, or even go a bit tighter to .040.

i have new plugs and wires so i'm thinking it was just the seal.
